Democracy doesn’t just run on votes.
It runs on servers, hosting policies, and who gets protected when pressure hits.
If infrastructure can be used to silence journalism or civic groups, that’s structural, not theoretical.
Bari Weiss’ side project is hemorrhaging readers as she takes on a new role at CBS.
Weiss’s right-leaning news and opinion blog, The Free Press, saw web traffic plummet 20 percent year-over-year in January, dropping from 6.1 million page visits to 4.9M.
Mahsa Khanbabai, a lawyer for #RumeysaOzturk, said that the decision was a “powerful affirmation of fairness & the rule of #law.”

An #immigration judge has found there were no grounds to deport a Turkish graduate student whose arrest by masked agents last year was an early salvo in the #Trump admin’s crackdown on migrants.
The decision by the judge, Roopal Patel, came last month & was disclosed in federal court by lawyers for the student, #RumeysaOzturk, this week. It effectively means that the govt has no legal justification to deport Ozturk, a grad student at Tufts.

This is how rule by law works. Make freedom of speech a criminal act. #China is leading the way. #Russia has a different strategy, which doesn't just involve corrupt judges, but also tea, windows, staircases, "stray" bullets, and "accidents" with rare chemicals.
