@Nolasox @chillwig.bsky.social no one thinks the shows sucked 😁 and most of the complaints I've heard are more of the "it was a shithole but we loved it" variety. Starting in 73 they could make it sound great almost everywhere, and you could freak freely. No doubt it was a dump and usually oversold tho. Bill was always hustling
@ErickaSimone @mrcompletely It’s an art project, guy put up signs all over LA. There’s an answering machine that asks your ethnicity and how much you think your soul is worth.
LOL What is life right now?
Who wants to actually call?
The antidote to materialism isn't minimalism; it's maintenance. Keep things. Fix them. Mend them. Grow old with possessions you know well because you've cared for them.
I'm done arguing about this, so instead I've done a thing I rarely do and made an meme:
out today: the #GratefulDead's new 60-CD "enjoying the ride" box. i wrote a ton of liner notes for this, including mini-essays about all the shows & venues, tour lore, & many maps. play with an interactive map: https://tmns.dead.net
3 show Warfield 1991 mini box coming from the Garcia estate. The middle night here (3.1.91) is widely regarded among collectors as a top tier JGB Warfield show & the top pick for many. The second one is also good to my ear. Don't know the first.
3.1 opens with Cats and He Ain't Give You None - a killer combo - and peaks with the finest Don't Let Go of the 90s followed by a clean, high energy take on Positively 4th Street. Lovely show

"The economic foundations of the web are crumbling."
No, you moron.
The web is a gift economy that was enclosed by a bunch of shitty men, and enclosure is not sustainable.
@tor_haxson well, it's not like the peons are invited, so you'll be among the bourgeoisie instead of the nobility, I'm sure it'll still be interesting. I'm serious though, i always enjoy your perspective, you have a well-formed and -expressed point of view
@tor_haxson i look forward to your scene reports.
Ladies and gentlemen, Marc Ribot!

' “We were all involved in the process of creating,” Ribot says. “There were no written charts or orchestrations; Tom [Waits] would play guitar or piano or congas, set a rhythm and a vibe, and then we’d come up with parts. He conceived his songs theatrically, asking the listener: who is the singer? What kind of bar are they singing in? Are they breathing their disgusting breath into your ear? '
@bourgwick likely you've seen this, but on the off chance you haven't

Really interesting YT channel, a transcriptions of a NYC guy's mostly 80s jazz and downtown scene (but also random other stuff) cassette collection, a lot of radio broadcasts etc. Multiple early Frisell shows, Rollins/Herbie, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Oregon, Zorn w/Naked City & Cobra, Wynton Marsalis, etc - very diverse uploads
