@dustinstoltz & I introduced concept class analysis (CoCA) in 2020 as a way to uncover traces of cultural schemas in text. Admittedly, the method's output requires some interpretive heavy-lifting.

Thus our new paper, which offers an analytical workflow for working with CoCA!

This is the flyer for the RA position.

Here's the project description: Prof. Marshall Taylor, Prof. Heather Harper, and Prof. Jagdish Khubchandani are hiring two graduate students to work as research assistants on a new NSF-funded project. The project is a study of the extent to which message content consistency among federal and state public health agencies is associated with the diffusion of discordant information on social media and whether or not compliance with public health recommendations is related with message content consistency.

I find that WNOs were more likely to focus attention on borders & immigration when there was an uptick in the number of non-right-wing terror threats/attacks in the U.S. the previous year---but especially so when the org's community was more Hispanic/Latinx.

I haven't been on here in a long while, but what better way to (re)start than with a new pub alert! 🚨

Why do white nationalist orgs (WNOs) focus attention on the grievances that they do? In this paper, I develop & test a cognitive-environmental theory of attentional selection in white nationalist mobilization.

Super excited to share that my research team and I just landed a NSF grant to develop and research a mixed reality learning platform. My students and I will use NLP, network analysis, and panel modeling to understand how platform engagement shapes community formation, identity development, and academic performance.
