I'm not seeing a credible solution to Britain's housing crisis from any of the parties. It's all "Here, have more unsustainable debt", or "It's the immigrants' fault", as they pander to elderly NIMBYs.

When I see a party that will tax second homes and buy to lets into oblivion, control rents, come down hard on dodgy landlords, rebuild the social housing stock, and build build build like it's 1948, then I will sit up and take notice.

Until then, my country has nothing to offer me.

The irony is not lost on me that the Internet Archive went out of its way to acquire the physical versions of millions of books and loan them out carefully and in a limited way, and is facing a near-extinction-level event over it, while for-profit and VC-backed companies are just stealing people’s content and making up excuses to validate the bad behavior.

Well, I say “hardware”, but we think our universe is running under a hypervisor, collocated with other universes. And thanks to a communication backchannel vulnerability in that hypervisor, we’re able to talk with one of those universes.

Now we think we’ve found a privilege escalation, so once we’ve contacted all the other universes, we’re going to try and get root.

@pluralistic Another point about music copyright: until the rise of digital sampling, melodies and lyrics could be copyrighted but *not* drum patterns or bass lines. This was a clearly racist interpretation of copyright meant to disenfranchise non-european-based music. The legacies of this practice still reverberate today.

The automated, mechanical voice that manages the call queue for our surgery says, in part, "did you know we have a website where you can order repeat prescriptions..." but in its particular intonation that sounds very much like "where you can order pizza" and my brain goes "wait, wut?" everytime it's repeated.
