@merlin when I worked at Microsoft they blocked .top.

It was only used for a "satire" website but still.

I'm a terrible cable organizer, but here's my current #homelab featuring Minisforum, @mikrotik, HP and T-Mobile hardware.
My homelab, with:

 * two Minisforum MS-01 Mini PCs (i9-13900H, 96GB RAM, bottom 2x4TB top 2x2TB NVMe)
 * a Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) and a Seagate 24TB hard drive
 * MikroTik CCR2004-16G-2S+ (bottom router), CRS312-4C+8XG-RM (middle, core switch), CSS610-8P-2S+IN (top, PoE AP switch)
 * HP LaserJet Pro M118dw
 * T-Mobile G4SE router

Not pictured: five MikroTik WAP ax, L2TP VPN for my static IPv4/IPv6.

If you use Telegram, now’s probably a good time to stop.

Musk has just signed a one-year partnership with Telegram to integrate his AI Grok into the message app.

xAI will invest $300 million, cash and equity, and share 50% of Grok subscription revenue.

There are problems with this approach: first it's a privacy invasion. He worked in a regulated industry yet puts every email through a LLM.

Second, it means you won't have to have good literary skills because a computer will do it for you. I **want** to be a better writer instead of "relying on AI".

Sure, once I had ChatGPT rewrite a Tor exit boilerplate (https://neelc.org/posts/chatgpt-gmail-spam/) but that was very early in the ChatGPT hype cycle.

My dad is hyping AI so much that he paraphrases every email in ChatGPT and is asking me to do the same.

@nuintari @tux0r @XaetaCore I want to love OpenBSD so bad but it's a bit too minimal for my tastes.

For instance, on the desktop no Bluetooth audio or on the server no Jails/containers or multicore VMs.

I use Rocky as a server and alternate between Fedora and openSUSE on the desktop (alongside a Mac).

I used to run FreeBSD but hardware support isn't there, they fell too far behind. Also outside of hardware FreeBSD is less polished than Linux and OpenBSD.

I still commit ports from time to time, but I'm also a Fedora packager but to a much smaller extent.

@eniko I had an "AI PC" for a few months. Dumped it for a ThinkPad.

Partially due to a few Linux bugs but also the fact that the ThinkPad has a better display (which is important to me).

Cartoon-style street art showing an elderly woman holding a red spray paint can, standing in front of a wall where the words "PROTECT YOUR DAUGHTERS" are crossed out in black and replaced with the message "EDUCATE YOUR SONS" written in red. The woman stands near three spray cans on the ground—green, yellow, and blue—casting a long shadow on the white wall. The image delivers a powerful feminist message, shifting the focus from shielding girls to raising responsible boys.

@stucchimax @mwl @nuintari I have an all-MikroTik network, started with switching in 2021 then routing and APs in 2024.

Ubiquiti is Apple: you get a killer UI and sexy hardware. MikroTik is Linux: you get a very modular but harder to use and less sexy platform.

I **hate** Ubiquiti gear but hold no grudge. That shouldn't dissuade you to use it. The U7 Pros were just lemons where much cheaper MikroTik Wi-Fi 6 had a better experience.

Re Microsoft win 10 machines.

Don't believe Microsoft

"because they can’t be upgraded to a supported OS there will not be the normal secondary market for those buying new hardware. This means there’s no boon for charities or other good causes, and instead this is a recycling or landfill choice.

This is criminal.

Recycle to Linux.

@grumpybozo @jwz The SPF, DKIM and DMARC was from an era when spam was primarily sent from residential ISPs and Windows botnets.

Now spammers can get a throwaway VPS to send spam. No wonder why my self-hosted email is overrun with spam!

I had family members complain about "slow wifi" on my @mikrotik wAP AX setup in our new brownstone. Why did it happen?

I forgot to set the country code so it never took full advantage of 5GHz Wi-Fi spectrum.

Yet another #homelab mistake. I'd be much easier if my passion was AV stuff, except that audiophiles like to buy insanely expensive gear while homelabbers don't.

New place #homelab pic.

I just wish we had fiber at our new place. In the meanwhile I have a L2TP tunnel to a VPS with a public IP.
My lab in our new house. On the top is a HP LaserJet printer and a T-Mobile router. In the middle are two Minisforum MS-01 PCs, a CSS610-8G-2S+IN (AP switch), CRS312-4C+8XG-RM (core switch) and CCR2004-16G-2S+ (core router). @TheDragon yes, but despite that all my customers (so far) are outside the US.

Over the past month or so I was working on a new #startup and I'm ready to launch.

The startup is Fourplex.net and it is a L2TP-based Static IP Tunneling service.

Basically, if you're stuck behind CGNAT or a university firewall Fourplex will give you a public IP address and IPv6 prefix.
