I've been working with a client who are making good use of #git #hooks - something many developers have used in the past but probably don't anymore.

I was putting a quick blog post together but using #jetbrains #rider they don't work unless I commit from the integrated terminal - very disappointed that a modern IDE doesn't integrate with something so fundamental

I did a TEDx talk today. It was a seven month long process, super interesting and different from any talk I’ve ever done. Collaborated with a speaker coach and artist/designer, and put together a talk that I think is one of my best. It’ll be online soon, and you can dig it out of the livestream, but definitely an experience I’ve never had before. I hope you’ll enjoy it and will post it as soon as I have a link

Is it me or is #jetbrains #rider on #mac just a little bit challenged when it comes to #maui ?

Hello non-technical people. Just a heads up. Musk isn’t a programmer, a systems architect, or anyone with experience building or running large systems of any kind. However, he’s taken credit for others building large systems which makes him think he’s That Guy. He is not.

@carlfranklin - If I can learn as much about the guitar as have have about .NET/C# etc over the years by listening to .NET Rocks, DNR TV etc then I'm all in

I recently heard about a wonderfully useful tool for analysing websites called WebCheck (web-check.xyz) but no sooner than I want to use it I find that it's offline.

It turns out that it's beem taken down by a DDoS attack that caused the author to incur a hefty cloud bill.

So sad that the efforts of a clearly talented individual have been taken offline by people who can only break instead of create.

@djvdq thanks, I'll check that out

@khalidabuhakmeh - I'm trying to use more shortcuts rather than reaching for the mouse so now I know I need to do the find first I'm good.

With CodeRush this wasn't needed, I could just tab the Tab key on any variable and move to the next occurance of it.

2024-12-10

@djvdq - on a Mac here too but that combination didn't work for me.

I needed to do a 'Find' first and then user F3/Shift+F3 to move through Next/Previous occurences

2024-12-10

thanks @khalidabuhakmeh - I think it was the extra step of doing the 'Find' first and then moving through the occurences.

An extra couple of keystrokes but not reaching for the mouse so that's good.

I've been using #jetbrains #rider for some time now and I love it .... but I do miss a particular function that I used extensively when using #devexpress #coderush on #visualstudio

I found the ability to click on a variable within a class and tap the Tab key to move to its next reference within the file really useful but I've not found it anywhere in the Rider settings.

Is it there or am I going to have to just suck it up 🙂

Looks like I'm going to have some long days ahead this week with some interesting looking sessions at this year .NET Conf virtual event.

I probably won't make all the sessions I'd like to see but as most are recorded I'm sure I'll be able to catch up at a more convenient time here in the UK.

Anyone else 'attending'?

Using Google Authenticator? Read this.👇

"It may collect data from at least eight different data categories, including your phone's contact list, the photos and videos on your device, plus your phone number and physical address."

@phoopee3 - thanks, a larger list than I expected.

I don''t really want to move again but you never can tell and it's always good to know your options.

2024-10-30

@wills - thanks, I've used Ghost and Drupal in the past but I really don't want to have to migrate to again :(

@mathewi An interesting read.

I, like many, have trusted my online presence to the Workpress platform so if Chris is right and it's now past it's peak/prime ... what are the viable options?

Just had to turn off 'Full Line Completion' in #jetbrains #rider .... two reasons;

1. It took over the 'Tab' key to complete which my muscle memory was having a hard time letting go of and resulted in the line completion I didn't want being inserted instead of the Intellisence item I did

2. A lot of the suggestions were flat out wrong - suggesting properties and methods that didn't exist.

Still loving Rider but this feature needs to find it's way a little before I enable it again

2024-10-28

While I certainly prefer #jetbrains #rider to visual studio I am having issues developing and debugging code that has long classes and methods (to be fair - stupidly long)

Intellisense works but there is no design time error/type checking so I have to build or sometimes run the application to find out something is wrong.

Wouldn't go back to VS mind you and it's only one client but it is a pain. #justsaying
