No photographic enlarger? No problem!

Today I wanted to try maybe the most hacky method of making a print from a 120 film negative.

So I used the camera itself to project the negative image. Detailed info in the alt texts of the images!

This was only the second try and I am already amazed how the image looks!

Final print of the color image on black and white paper. The fuzzy edges of the image are because I did not use an easel or any mask but I just placed the paper on the floor holding it flat with some aluminum scrap pieces around the edges.

Overview of the setup. Old Zeiss Super Ikonta 532/16 camera for 120 film on the tripod with the lens facing straight to the bathroom floor, distance to the lens about 28cm.
The back cover is open to accept a self made platform of about 30mm height where the negative film is placed. This is neccessary to get the minimal focal distance down as the camera normally has about 1.6m minimum distance.
For ilumination a smartphone was used displaying a white screen on full brightess. I used a mechanical shutter release for exposure.
The image came out 15cm big and the exposure was 8 seconds.

@leah The first main issue is "greed" and that's why AI will be successful. It can replace some people and some jobs and that will save some rich people a lot of money.

The second main issue: There is no solution in reach. Most of the people just don't care and they are paving the way to hell for everyone

@fesix and I gave our little pin hole camera (aka an empty can of nuts)
another shot and exposed a photosensitive paper for a few days.
The result is flipped, inverted and with an added color profile.
I like what u get out of can of nuts :D

@Xzan that would be kinda acceptable. They banned people from online play/store before for modifying their switch. I could understand that since they have a legit interest in keeping the online community cheater free. Bricking the HW and keeping u from playing physical cards offline wouldn’t be acceptable tho

@fesix and I tested my 70 old medium format camera. It works quite well but we had some variation in the exposures. It looks like the spring-loaded shutter mechanism has aged a bit, leading to slight overexposure.

Naturally, things got nerdy—so we fired up the scope and took some measurements.

Zeiss Super Ikonta 532, a medium format camera

Today we measured how accurate and repeatable the shutter of @pandora 's 70 year old Zeiss Super Ikonta medium format camera is. Oscilloscope measures how long the photodiode sees the flashlight. Up to about 1/100s it is pretty good, with faster shutter speeds it tends to get more variable and slower.

Overview of the setup with camera in the middle, a flashligth shines into the lens, a photodiode with resistor is held into the back. It is powered by a small laboratoy power supply. A digital storage oscilloscope showes the time of the shutter.

Today I tested my latest pinhole camera made from a metal can that can hold almost a complete sheet of 17.8x24cm photosensitive paper. Almost all surfaces that are not covered by the paper are covered by black velour. The hole is made with a sharp needle in some aluminum foil. Wrapping the paper inside the can gives a big viewing angle.
Because the paper is negative the resulting image has to be color inverted and flipped horizontally.

Resulting image after scanning the paper, inverting the colors and flipping along the horizontal axis. Only very little correction to the color curve was made. The bright regions at the bottom of the picture might be internal reflections of some shiny areas of the can or some light leaking through the lid. The paper is Ilfospeed RC that is long over the shelf life and turns grey while developing even when not exposed.

Top down view of the inside of the can, on the bottom right is a big hole in the wall which will be covered with the aluminum foul with the pinhole. This side of the wall as well as the bottom of the can is covered with black velour. The rest of the wall is covered with checkered paper that is replaced by the photosensitive paper.

Detailed view of the tiny hole in the aluminum foil taped to the outside of the can. Diameter is measured at around 0.2mm.
