In the Bash, `~-` is expanded to the content of `OLDPWD`. So:

cd ~-/..

is a shortcut for the 2 commands:

cd "$OLDPWD" (or `cd -`)
cd ..

In Bash `$(<file)` is equivalent to `$(cat file)`, but faster:

P=( $(</etc/passwd) )
echo ${P[0]}

We are now in the middle of "Oops"

Graph titled
Climate change
A timeline
About the first half of the timeline is light blue and is labeled "Climate change isn't real"
Just under the second half is orange and is labeled "OK Climate change is real, we're just not convinced it's caused by humans".
There's a short red segment labelled "Oops".
The last very short segment is yellow and labeled "Fuck".

I will give an online talk for the fedi Solstice School on 2023-07-26 (Wed) 13:00 UTC

"Funktal: a frugal functional programming language"

Funktal is a "modern" functional programming language for the Uxn virtual machine, a tiny VM with 64 kB of memory. I will explain why I created it, some of the cool functional features it has, how it is implemented and why, and where it could be going.

Intellectually, I know:

"Traveling, and being in different locations, distorts and slows the perception of time passing."

And have known it for a long time. But, every time I live it, I'm surprised by how incredibly strong the effect is.

With the help of @tty and @d6, we've found a non-intrusive way of adding metadata to #uxn roms, so external programs can see some additional details about the program and also display an icon.

The specs is here: wiki.xxiivv.com/site/metadata.

A stand-alone program to display metadata: git.sr.ht/~rabbits/uxn/tree/ma

A little info box with a program's details and a little picture of a rabbit pushing a brouette.

I love programming language design.

I remember when I was haphazardly putting the Orca PL together, and very very clever people would come up with these amazing ways to bend the thing into totally unexpected shapes.

It's truly wonderful that most Uxntal programmers are better than me at it. Tonight, I was reminded of that.

Newer homes and furniture burn faster, giving you less time to escape a fire. Research shows that 30 years ago, you had about 17 minutes to escape a house fire. Today it's only 3 or 4 minutes.

2030: Hydrogen gel is the new hip fuel. You have 0 minutes to escape the house fire.

A question that keeps coming back is how to apply a struct to a database in #uxntal.

Here's the little example I will be using in the upcoming docs :)

A little program in Uxntal that defines a members database and a uses a Person struct to get the individual cells.
