Fellow #dance nerds, today is Rite of Spring Day!

#OTD 1913, in Paris, the ballet Le Sacre du Printemps (the Rite of Spring) debuted. To say it was intensely controversial is an understatement (there are legends of fights breaking out in the audience), but it was a landmark work that, like Vaslav Nijinsky's other compositions, ushered ballet into modernism.

Which is a nice way of telling me that its work is done, but whenever stuff like this happens, I can't help but wonder what kind of bullet I dodged.
