Electronic mail is so confusing. Why do I need to choose a provider and how do I even decide? And once I have an address, how do I find my friends’ addresses and send them letters? Will I only be able to send letters to people using the same provider?

Did you know I do music as well? My first single, ‘The Things I Think’ is being released on December 9th. I can’t wait for you to hear it.

And if you’d like to pre-save it on Spotify you’d be really helping me out.

For anyone looking to migrate Mastodon servers and keep your followers AND your follows, blocks, etc (you can’t move posts, alas), below is the best step by step guide I’ve found.

There’s two steps to move over everything but posts and lists. First, you export your following list (plus blocks, mutes, etc.) for import into the new account. Then you create an alias that moves your followers over/points to your new account.

I stepped away from frontend dev for the last couple of years, taking a spell as #DesignManagement which has been a great experience. I've recently moved back to #DesignEngineering though and I'm having a whale of a time doing what I love again and catching up on what I've missed in CSS (which is seems is 'a lot'). #css is my one true work love.

What's a good RSS reader these days. I've been using Reeder app for years but I wonder if I'm missing out on anything.

@markboulton I was thinking the same when I had to dive in to update my social links. Tempted to maybe resurrect it. Because I have nowhere near enough on my plate right now 🤨

Hey Frontend People! @SaraSoueidan opened pre-orders for her course "Practical Accessibility" today.

This will undoubtedly be a master class in how to build accessible products, and it's still 25% off!

@matthamm Might be, but that's irrelevant. We're just really enjoying the pacing and the diffrent feel. I loved Mando (season 1 at least), but Andor has something else for me.

@matthamm Me and the lad are watching Andor and really enjoying it. We think it's better than Mandolorian.

Dialogs, modality and popovers seem similar. How are they different? What do they imply for usability? For accessibility (screenreader, keyboard navigation)? A very detailed summary of what you need to know. hidde.blog/dialog-modal-popove

To everyone's surprise, Toot! v17.0 is out!

toot.to/

This is the first in a series of releases that implement support for new Mastodon features. More will come in the near future, but this version offers:

* Full support for all new types of notifications in Mastodon 4.0, including admin notifications.
* Updated to use more modern versions of various iOS functionality. As a result, however, the minimum supported iOS version is now 13.
* Bugfixes.

I haven’t been to a #frontend dev /design/ui/UX conference in yonks. What’s good these days? Ideally UK or nearby.

I’ve spent the last few days trying out all the Mastodon iOS apps I can find. Finally seem to be settling on Toot! It’s absolutely delightful. Makes following other instances local feeds easy too.

Productivity apps are the single category I experience a lot of churn. At the moment, I’m using:

– sunsama.com/ for to do management and integration with calendars and Trello. Honestly, it’s been a game-changer. I’ve been using it for a year. Still needs some deeper integration on desktop (mostly with GCal).
bear.app/ for notes. Not sure if it will stick due to the wiki-like hashtag organic categorisation. But the syncing cross-device is great.

What are you using?

2022-11-21

@markboulton Sunsama looks like it would be good for work with the Jira integration. I don't know if I can stomach that price though rather than just using Jira on its own.

2022-11-21

@markboulton I'm a bear user. I tend not to use it for work though, although the alternatives I've tried haven't worked out for me. I just like to keep Bear personal. I write all my songs in Bear.
