Tiny, powerful and efficient – this is like some holy trifecta type shit this tech manages to pull off and I cannot overstate how big this "boring" technology actually is.

Unlike AI pipedreams fucking everything else over for some prophesied future payoff that's actually impossible to achieve, this will bring actual change. Quietly, in the background and without most people even noticing.

This offers a big increase of power generation efficiency for essentially all types of power plants (with the exception of PV, wind and water) because those are currently all using steam turbines.

Like, virtually *every single powerplant on the planet* can get a high double-digit percentage increase in efficiency.

More power out of the same plants – and for a physical footprint of the turbines that's around 10% that of equivalently powerful steam turbines.

The advent of supercritical COΒ² turbines is probably the single most impactful technological change right after photovoltaics becoming the cheapest source of electricity.

I think it tends to fall by the wayside outside of engineering enthusiast circles because it's boring technology, but it deserves at least as much hype as any fusion tech development – probably even moreso because we now have *actual, productive deployments* of it.

28 Years Later is actually a good movie. Did not expect that.

Oh great, the pattern I use for multiprocessing in a bunch of different projects (i.e. defining multiprocessing.Process subclasses for different types of tasks) just completely explodes on python 3.14.

Am I really the only one using actual OOP in this OOP language!? :thaenkin:

@dch Spoiler: First thing he does is siding with the struggle of sex workers. That immediately had me on board.

For some reason this reminds me of how abysmally bad Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves' character) in Cyberpunk 2077 is written.

It's a "rebels" understanding as seen on mainstream news, "corps bad" without any underlying reasons and he'll constantly berate you for actually siding with peoples' struggles.

"Oh, you're gonna side with a bunch of *whores*? Pah!". Painfully dumb.

@dch Oh, that's refreshingly candid. :3

@dch Honestly tho, I just wish there was a faithful adaptation of Transmetropolitan, which is IMO *the* best comic of all time.

It's basically "What would Hunter Thompson do in a cyberpunk dystopia?" and it's very good at what it's doing.

@dch Movie-wise I can *very* much recommend "Sorry To Bother You".

When it came out in 2018 it finally replaced Jurassic Park as my favorite movie.

It's about power, race and has a union conflict central to its plot.

@dch There isn't even much I can really recommend there.

Altered Carbon is pretty good, tho I hear they cut much of the more explicit politics of the books for the show (still have to read the books).

Dark Angel was also uncharacteristically progressive in places with a protagonist who's actually a squatter in a dystopia, but it's very PG-13.

Blood Drive has some great zany worldbuilding, but it's not exactly trying to be high-brow. Still definitely one of the most entertaining shows ever.

@TechConnectify Just happened onto this on YT, had no idea you're here.

Making great points throughout the entire video there and it's nice to see people active in ostensibly far-removed fields to find such clear words.

Put tape and labels on a bunch of previously unmarked cables (3x DP, 2x audio jack, 2x USB).

Closed up the desktop which has been open for weeks.

Put the entire shebang back into the rack and cabled everything up.

And then it was 10AM – SEVEN FUCKING HOURS LATER. Because I rebooted one machine. :tinking: πŸ”«

Installed the two non-telescoping rails I recently got… twice – now offset by 1/3U so the machines actually fit into the rack. With ridiculously little room to work below my desk and constant risk of me just knocking the desk down onto myself.

Replaced the dead graphics card in the homeserver with another one (that I originally replaced because its fan is audibly dying).

Rebooted my homeserver around 3AM to apply some changes.

Noticed the graphics card in there died, so I couldn't input the fde passphrase and had to replace it.

Had to remove the desktop from the rack because it was just physically lying on top of the server since I couldn't get the telescopic rails to fit (or rather the cases to fit into the rack with them installed).

Plugged both machines out and put them aside.

@jasper Ye, like the tacit approval or at least willful ignorance of the turkish military campaign on Rojava wasn't already bad enough of a backstab. :/
