We're going to be moving forward under the expectation that future Pixel devices may not meet the requirements to run GrapheneOS (grapheneos.org/faq#future-devi) and may not support using another OS. We've been in talks with a couple OEMs about making devices and what it would cost.

Safe travels to all going to #BSDCan!

@lattera wow that hurts. Be grateful you're not in Phoenix. Also, thank you.

@wpeckham @theregister I am a regular correspondent with that Adam, and here, he is wrong as well.

I am a former Red Hat employee. I know very well what that company is like, because I worked there. RH folks tend to take the view that RH is the entire Linux industry, and RH encourages this.

It is not.

There are other forks of the X.org codebase, such as Xenocara:

xenocara.org/

And the ones in FreeBSD, NetBSD & DragonflyBSD.

There are many *many* other independent X11 servers, such as XQuartz.

xquartz.org/

And other more traditional Unix X11 servers, including the ones in Solaris, IBM AIX, & HP/UX.

And OpenVMS.

There are or were other Linux X11 servers that were not FOSS, such as Metro-X:

linuxjournal.com/article/2299

And Xi Accelerated-X:

everythinglinux.org/ax/

There are Windows X11 servers, such as Exceed:

mimage.opentext.com/evals/conn

It is not all about X.org. It is not all about Linux.

When Linux folks say the Wayland developers are the X developers, they mean the X.org folks. When RH say the X.org folks, they mean the X.org folks _who work for Red Hat_.

They don't realise, and they deny it, but that's because they're inside the Linux giant and they can't see out.

But _they are wrong_ and so are you.

If Kharkiv were Chicago, this would be called what it is — terrorism.
But it’s Ukraine.
So russia burns cities and calls it liberation.

@lattera nicely done!

I also visited the historic African Zion Baptist Church, one of the first churches started by slaves. It was the home church of Booker T Washington. 🏷️ 25.05C

@jasongorman I accidentally learned about the “subsidized destruction of markets to enact a monopoly” strategy back in the 1990s. A friend of mine owned a photocopy shop (remember those?) in a small college town. Kinko’s came into town and offered copies for far less than it cost to make, eating the losses for as long as it took to kill off their competitors. My friend of course went out of business, and shortly after, Kinko’s raised their prices to much higher than his prices would have been.

After personally seeing that strategy in action, I now see it everywhere. Walmart did the same thing by killing off local stores. Amazon did it with online shipping. Every startup’s “disruption” strategy is basically this technique in disguise: Uber, AirBNB, and of course, AI. It’s all about destroying an industry in order to monopolize and enshittify it for profit.

#disruption #enshittification

@sblaydes id probably go with BIND as i know it better. Though if i had more automation needs with DNS, id look at PowerDNS

@vwbusguy Yeah, usually when I walk into a place with ambience 90s era music, my first thought is that I will very likely to come back again.

Well crap, with it getting hotter in Phoenix, I was planning on getting up north into the mountains for some fresh cool air and hiking.. then remembered it's Memorial Day in the US, a 3 day weekend, and everybody and their mother will be going up to the mountains too. :flan_sad:
