Working in podcasting. Currently the Controller and Operations guy with NY-based Amaze Media Labs, where I've worked on the creation and distribution of 50+ branded podcasts. I do this from the comfort of my own home 3,000 miles away in Washington State. Isn't technology grand?
In my pare time I'm a photographer, graphic designer, gamer, handyman, woodworker, musician, home school teacher, and father.
I find it both interesting and sad that many of the celebrity/journalist accounts joining mastodon are following no one.
That means they aren't joining in, don't have a relevant or interesting timeline, and most importantly, don't understand the difference between being fed *curated* information by a corporation and seeking out information for themselves.
We're building a community, not another celebrity worship-fest or automatic political circle jerk machine.
A boring #tip that I'm sure every new person knows about but just in case you don't...
On Twitter, you could only follow people.
Here (by 'here' I mean #Mastodon's website specifically, not seemingly Pleroma) you can also follow hashtags. Just search for a hashtag and if you like it, hit the follow button, top right.

I can't help but notice many toots from helpful newbies encouraging you to support the Mastodon Patreon.
It's fine to do that but understand it goes to just two big instances and the official Mastodon dev team.
It does NOT trickle down to YOUR instance. If you want to support your server, donate to it directly. Nearly all the costs of the explosive growth of the past few weeks is borne by local instances.
Mastodon is decentralized. There is no Mastodon Inc. This is not Twitter.
If anyone sees this, do you mind boosting it. Trying to federate with the rest of the known universe

Watched 'Spirited' with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrel last night on Apple TV+, and I didn't think it was that great. It had a few funny moments, but overall came away disappointed. I even fell asleep in the middle of it.
TBF, it was much later than I normally stay up and I'm generally not a fan of musicals.

Really enjoying mastodon so far and how algorithms aren't shoving content at us constantly that only aims to engage or incite. That and there are no reels or tiktok knock offs. That's probably the most refreshing part to be honest.

If you haven't yet had a chance to check out other instances of Mastodon, I recommend it. There's some really good communities out there. Right now I particularly like counter.social
