Trying very hard to keep my cool today

A strange dissonant thought I see in Pagan spaces is the disdain for modernity, or anything made by humans is "not natural." This kind of thinking separates out humans as something different from the planet, when the whole point of paganism is bring us closer to Mother Earth.

Everything on this earth is made from the earth, therefore, it is all "natural," even if a human made it. We humans are just another mammalian species with all the evolved drives to survive and reproduce. We are not a "virus" and we are not "chosen," we're just animals doing animal things.

Animals commonly overharvest their environments and overproduce, because they survive and evolve by their natural drive for 'more.' Eventually, the Mother takes care of it and brings them back to balance again—through disease, predation, or wiping them out by climate disaster.

We might be able to stop that by changing our lifestyles, but going backward isn't the answer. Hating modernity means looking at the past with an extremely rosey lens. Our religion is dominated by women, and trust me ladies, you do not want to be living in any of those past centuries. Also, it leaves out all the disabled people that rely on modern technologies to stay alive. Actually, history was not kind to any marginalized groups, so we should really be looking into the future for our ideal lifestyle.

Our Mother has given up pieces of herself to get us where we are now. Let's not hate her sacrifice, let's use it to be better.
