UCLA California Rare Book School is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the second annual Queer Bibliography conference to be held between July 24-27, 2024, on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles, California. Queer Bibliography makes explicit the connections between queer theories and methodologies and the multifaceted field of bibliography. This year’s conference will focus on CalRBS’s 2024 theme “Borders, Boundaries, and Margins.”

This Bibliography Lab is going to be a central resource for @calrbs courses. Not to mention, we have a *whole course* utilizing this space taught by @ryancordell called Hands-on Book Pedagogy! See calrbs.org/2024-courses/ for more information.

The Bibliography Lab is getting installed into its new space at UCLA/ @calrbs! It’s messy, equipment is being reassembled and refurbished, more equipment is set to arrive, and I’ve got more cuts on my hands than in recent memory, but soon this space will be ready for serious printing!

2023-12-19

The space will be used for both university and community projects thanks to the Mellon foundation. Publishing is a form of individual and community power!

On 7/11/23 the Montana State Library Commission voted to withdraw from the American Library Association due to the election of Emily Drabinski as President of #ALA. Stated reasons for this separation include Drabinski’s self-describing as a “Marxist lesbian.”

Emily is a dear colleague, thought leader, and @calrbs instructor. Faculty in the #UCLA Department of Information Studies have signed this letter denouncing this decision: <ucla.box.com/s/tjt2wz0e59uf73y>. In solidarity, and onward!

@ryancordell Very sorry, Ryan. Really just awful all around.

@ryancordell I’m sorry to hear this.

So appreciative of Tamar Evangelista-Dougherty, Director of Smithsonian Libraries and Archives for speaking to my Special Collections MLIS course at UCLA! Tamar’s generosity knows no bounds.

@ryancordell This is awful. We can’t stand for this ubiquitous violence anymore. I’m so sorry.

#Bibliography, #BookHistory, #PrintCulture, etc., friends: hot on the heels of a great global librarianship and print culture course, I am teaching a doctoral seminar simply called “Bibliographical Theories.” What works, theories, trends, would you see integral to such a course? Thank you for your collective feedback. Want to make sure I take into account as many voices as possible.

I’ve sat on this news for a couple of days as it’s a bit surreal, but I’m overjoyed to say that I’ve been granted #tenure and Associate Professor status at #UCLA. What a ride for a first generation college student! So much to be done, but for now, I just sit and appreciate.
