there appears to be an unwritten rule that if a C or C++ source file starts with a comment block containing the GPL it will be the only comment in the entire file (aside from perhaps commented-out code)

Just saw another pie chart that badly should have been a bar graph.

(I didn't completely agree with this post, but in broad strokes this is why you should almost never use pie charts!)

I know I'm a dinosaur, but I don't get the trend of programming languages abbreviating function for things like fun or fn.

Like, is it really that hard to type? Or does it really take up that much horizontal screen real estate?

Are we going to abbreviate all of the compiler keywords?

#inc<sio.h>
vd mn() {
 fr (in x=0; x<100; x++) {
  pf("%s\n", "I m wy 2 l33t 4 u!");
 }
}

An incomplete list of widely-held misapprehensions:

โ€ข Wealth is an indicator of intelligence

โ€ข Love or interest in the culture and history of a country is an endorsement of its government

โ€ข LLMs bullshitting isn't bad because humans also lie

โ€ข It's preferable to be wrong than inconsistent

โ€ข You should abolish adverbs from writing

โ€ข Accessibility is only for those with disabilities

โ€ข Any material other than cotton belongs in socks (arguably the worst of this whole bunch)

Probably the single most useful thing I've made this year - this 3D print turns a standard blue #JLCPCB mailing box into an organiser for all my little PCB design experiments.

It features 2mm slots - default PCBs from JLC are 1.6mm wide. The top side curves are to help the box close easily and the rounded corners are for print reliability. The model linked below has the handle in the main model, not screwed on.

Get it here: printables.com/model/1323851-p

A photo of a 3D printed organiser for small circuit boards. It's a flat rectangular thing with long 2mm wide slots cut into it, and a curved handle sticking up from the middle. There's an array of different sized circuit boards sticking up in neat rows.A photo of the whole thing fitting neatly into a small blue cardboard box.

My blog has been going for 20 years. It has *always* had my home city and country on every page. I spell words like old Charles would. I employ SI measurements. I use phrases like โ€œwah lao ehโ€ and โ€œsheโ€™ll be rightโ€.

At *least* once a month, without fail, someone will email me assuming Iโ€™m either (a) American, or (2) live in the US.

Occupational hazard?

Back to trying to beat our 10,000 steps a day streak now that weโ€™re over Covid. Slowly went from 5, to 6, to 8. Yesterday, we did 12,000.

Problem is, itโ€™s so damn cold outside and weโ€™re only on 4,000. Welp, better put on the pizza jacket.

(iOS corrected puffy as pizza. Iโ€™m keeping it. Pizza jacket sounds delightful. Yes, Iโ€™d like to have a fancy red and beige blazer in which I eat margarita pizza, please. Or maybe a New York style).

I don't like watching the latest Apple announcements thesedays, but I guess its still important to see what Windows and Android phones will be aping in the next 6-12 months.

(I was going to say "for better or worse", but I think we know where the line is trending!)
