@merryoscar I was wondering if Fountain provides a feed of my listening activity at all, not just boosts and comments? I know Truefans added a load of ActivityPub verbs and I’d find it super helpful for syndicating recommendations beyond the app.
What animals can see inside of you?
Cats can.
(Kudos to Adam Buxton for sharing that beauty)

After reading the chapter in his book, I just watched the highlight of Sir Tim Berners-Lee at the London Olympics 2012 and it really hit a nerve.
His message “This Is For Everyone” resonates more than ever in our digital age.
The father of the web emphasises how the internet should unite us all, breaking down barriers and fostering collaboration.
What a powerful reminder of a more inclusive digital future.
T’was the night before Christmas and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, except a geek still obsessing over his little side project.
What a year we’ve had though - and big love to everyone who’s been part of this movement in 2025.
My year in Cursor shows it’s mostly on side projects during the summer, tailing off in the autumn when I started using ChatGPT Codex instead.
It’s definitely the year I started putting agents to work for me though.
Teams don’t just work in straight lines.
Some thrive in tight-knit groups.
Others spark when they mix with new folks.
It’s worth stepping back and noticing where the energy really flows.
Gratitude isn’t just about big shout-outs.
Sometimes it’s a quiet thank you for something that genuinely mattered from the heart..
Make time this Christmas to say thank you to one of your team mates.
It's Day 18 of PETALS Advent 🪟

Which sweet are you in the Christmas selection tub?
Today, we were spoilt in the office with a great choice and it made me think how it can bring some fun to your team conversations.
Go on, share yours with us and your team.
Day 15 of PETALS advent 🎄
Hackathon time means:
– quick team forming
– messy ideas
– zero time for perfection
So how do you actually get aligned before you divide and conquer?
On a personal note, I’ve really enjoyed sharing this platform with Neil. We’ve known each other casually for a few years now, but these conversations have been a brilliant way to properly get to know his thinking and beliefs.
After every recording, we always end up saying, “I really enjoyed that!”
I can't wait to see where this goes in 2026…
Next Wednesday, we’re talking modern QA. Not testing at the end, but how quality actually works in modern tech teams.
Then we’re taking a festive break before recording the second half of the season.
We’d love your feedback, topic ideas, and anyone who fancies joining us for a proper conversation. Links in the comments 👇
The Pilot - why we’re rebooting, what we care about, and setting expectations
“Let’s see if we can get past the classic two-episode podcast death.”
Always Learning - how learning really happens beyond budgets, courses, and good intentions
“I didn’t learn anything groundbreaking, but I learned loads of little things.”
How Hands-On Are You - balancing support, trust, context, and knowing when to step in
“The answer is always ‘it depends’, which is deeply annoying.”
Over the summer, Neil Younger and I bounced around the idea of rebooting the Managing Engineers podcast.
No big launch plan, just a shared feeling that there were still useful conversations to have.
So we recorded a few episodes first, then quietly launched it last month.
It’s been honest, a bit messy, and very familiar if you manage people in tech.

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
Day 11 of PETALS advent touches on the topic, plus how Christmas Jumper Day can shine a spotlight on different global cultures.

Today is Human Rights Day so, for PETALS Advent Day 10, I'm reflecting on the importance of dignity, fairness and voices in the workplace.

Day 9 of PETALS advent 🎄
Christmas absences are real.
Thoughtful planning and shared expectations keep things calm.
