@skyfire747 no left them there - they were pretty happy with the constant water pouring in from the roof down pipes :)

First good rain for a few weeks today so thought I should check the rainwater tank inlet screens for any possible blockages ... came up with this couple ;) Peron's Tree Frogs (Litoria peronii) at Corunna, NSW ...

A lot of butterflies currently enjoying some early autumn flowering on the grafted Hakea clavata - mostly common darts / narrow-band grass-darts (Ocybadistes flavovittatus) I think ....

First flowers out on the Grevillea 'Cupid's Dream' - popular with the local grass-darts. With classic hybrids like 'Pink Surprise' and 'Misty Pink' difficult to find in nurseries these days 'Cupid's Dream' could become an excellent alternative with sprays of pink flowers and deeply divided blue/green foliage.

@hi_cial yep lot of marine species to avoid in Oz - funnel web spiders are also fun (we get them here but not the Sydney funnel webs which can be lethal.) Bugs are pretty much just crabs yeah - I generally find them to be a bit of a waste of time getting the meat out and will go for crayfish ('lobsters') every time ...

2025-03-10

@hi_cial only ever come across 4 or 5 snake species down here most years but tigers and eastern browns can kill you - and the two local black snakes are also venomous ... so there's something to the Aussie snake thing ;)

@jonny spots are very effective camouflage in dappled light / forest conditions ... not so effective amongst boxes in the shed ;)

2025-03-10

@khusky just left it there resting - can tidy those boxes up another day ;)

2025-03-10

@allsumnull it's a pretty upmarket neighbourhood ;)

2025-03-10

@chrisnelsonsdog the Diamonds are pretty friendly - this one hardly moved a muscle the whole time I was working around it in the shed - might have been digesting a meal ...

Found the head of pest control taking it pretty easy on the job this morning in the shed ... Diamond Python (Morelia spilota spilota) at Corunna, NSW ...

@skyfire747 Yep, Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog (Litoria fallax).

2025-01-25

Grevilleas are always a good way to attract wildlife to your garden but these 'Cupid's Dream' hybrids are already proving popular with some of the smaller locals and I haven't even taken them out of the pots or removed the labels yet! (Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog - Litoria fallax).

@chestas yeah waist height def more likely to be G. procera :)

2025-01-14

@chestas unless I've missed something in recent reclassifications Tassie has 2 x Gastrodia species - G. sesamoides (cinnamon bells) and G. procera (tall potato orchid) - same as Victoria? G. sesamoides is generally smaller with fewer flowers but can have up to 16 flowers - so could still be that I guess. I've seen both species growing in close proximity in Namadgi NP, ACT.

2025-01-14

@chestas yep - looks like seed pods from one of the Gastrodia species. Bit hard to exact ID without seeing flower / early flowering stem development … where did you spot these?

2025-01-06

@deepmud no probs - they are a good looking snake, always worth a photo :)

2025-01-06

@sister_ratched they are a good looking snake :)

2025-01-06

@khusky yeah there are a couple of larger snakes locally that you definitely don't want to tangle with - browns and tigers in particular - but don't usually run into them that much. Still, always a good idea to keep an eye out when walking around the Aussie bush ;)

@cheryanne they are a good looking snake!
