@chrisisgr8 most people get more from the standardized deduction than from itemizing, especially if you're like an ordinary hourly working type. I wouldnt worry about it

Really sorry to ask a question like this. For whatever reason the documentation on `csv` has not really been that grokkable to me and I just want to move on to the next part of this project and not think about this anymore.

Feels like something that needs to be done often enough that there must be an easy, common solution I dont know how to google for

Does anyone know how to read a csv file in Rust? I've been reading through crates and packages for the last 3 hours and havent gotten anywhere with it.

It's for a small personal project so doesnt need to be scalable; csv file wont be longer than 100 lines or so. I just need to read the file in a way that I can access it line by line, and only use lines if the first value of the line matches the value I'm giving it.

Anyone have a rec for a non-Denon stereo receiver. I bought this thing 2 years ago and after multiple complete rewirings it's been making a popping sound and going to safety mode every time I try to turn it on.

Trying to learn Rust to expand my horizons, doing so with a personal project. Rust recommends using Visual Studio and will even kindly install it for you, which is very nice of them. I'm more familiar with visual studio code at work, but whatever, itll be fine, right?

I have now spent the last 15 minutes solely trying to create a file called main.rs. You can create solution files, automatically named solution1 or solution2. You can create text files, automatically named textfile1 or textfile2. But you cant rename those files in VSStudio, you have to rename them in the file explorer. Also, the text files dont exist in the file explorer, because they're just not that important.

@megmac yeah. A short shutdown is bad enough for govt employees and people dependent on govt funding, most get furloughed and some "essential" govt employees have to come in without pay. Usually, the shutdown ending budget bill includes provisions giving those employees back pay. But even so, can you go 2 months or 3 months or 6 months without pay on a govt salary? Eventually you will see govt employees leaving en masse for jobs where they actually get paid, and that institutional memory is hard to replace.

I'm torn on your political points. Because funding the government is absolutely important and as a responsible party, the Democrats should make sure it stays funded. But on the other hand, the republicans deserve full fault for this disaster, they have stoked their neofascist wing to the point where their party is actually just two smaller parties in a trenchcoat.

None of this wouldnt be an issue if the Rs could agree on a single person to be Speaker, if the Rs weren't so ideologically bankrupt that election denial is the price of admission, if the old school conservatives and moderates who hate what their party has become could join with Dems for a scant 14 months to bury the alt right. But instead, here we are.

@megmac I honestly think it might go all the way to the 2024 elections - the only breakpoint I can think of is when the 45 day deadline for the CR runs out. I really dont think the Republicans have anyone who can command a majority in the house. I dont blame people for not volunteering when the best they can hope for is some metastable, McCarthy-like existence
