Young idiot mini Aussie started getting a bit intense toward other dogs in the dog park, so this sensible girl grabbed his dragging leash and applied the brakes. “Whoa dude, chill!” #DogsOfMastodon #AustralianShepherd #miniAussie #SmoothCollie

In a dog park strewn with wood chips, a tan and white smooth collie is holding onto a leash attached to a blue merle mini Aussie as he’s preparing to run toward another dog.In a woodchip-filled dog park (with a picnic table and log in the background) there is a tan and white smooth collie yanking on a leash attached to a blue merle mini Aussie, who is now standing still, wondering what the hell just happened.

Okay, cheese grater cowbell… You’ve got a side for shaving cheese, one for thick grating, and another for thin grating—no notes there—you’re killing it.

But that last side’s just to draw blood? Oh, it’s for “zesting citrus”? That’s not cheese. Does it at least work? No. Can I clean it? Also no.

Ontario's health care system is sometimes bizarre: Last week had minor surgery at a clinic—the surgery itself was covered by OHIP, but the local anesthetic was not! Is this government idiocy, or private clinic gouging?

I miss seeing the kind of interactive work and experimentation a designer could do on their own with Flash. There isn't really anything like it any more.

Today at the dog park: the most vivid rainbow I’ve ever seen, and the first double rainbow I’ve seen to boot. #yyz #rainbow

Dogs wander in a field oblivious to a strong rainbow arcing through the partly cloudy sky behind them.A public park baseball field with lights and a pedestrian bridge behind are in foreground with a strong rainbow and a dimmer second rainbow arcing across the mainly cloudy sky in the background.Telephoto image of the vivid colours of a rainbow with a pedestrian bridge, construction equipment and baseball stadium lights in the foreground.

@wjrucklidge @sjvn @clith My end-of-subscription date was less than 2 months away, and my yearly rate was less than $20 US so it wasn’t worth the time or effort to make a phone call, even to make a point!

Well, throw the dang thing already! #MonDog #DogsOfMastodon #AustralianShepherd

Blue merle miniature Australian shepherd with a white undercarriage and heterochromatic eyes stands in chest-deep snow, a red frisbee under his nose. The young dog stares at the camera with an insistent glare, powdery snow frosting his face.

@hannah I was terrified of the riser, which was up pretty high because I’m short. I was on so long ago (Trebek-era) that they had to manually put in the privacy screens

@sjvn @clith My childhood dream was being an editorial cartoonist, so the WaPo/Ann Telnaes fight actually hit me harder than the Bezos election non-call (bad as that was). It finally pushed me to cancel my subscription (only pausing for a second because I had such a cheap rate and was sad to see it go!)

@MikeTRose Mad props

I finally made the famous Eric Kim NYT Gochjang caramel cookies. I gotta say, I was skeptical all the way through—I didn’t even sneak any raw dough because the fermented odor of the gochujang really didn’t scream “yummy cookie” to me. But I can report: yes they are very tasty: the funkiness completely cooks off and you end up wth a crispy/chewy cookie with a caramelly, spicy kick!

The messy aftermath of our cupping session for thedecafproject.com, where we compared three different decaffeination processes (and a caffeinated control) on the same beans. Beans were from nucleuscoffee.com in Quebec.

Four teacups filled with coffee surrounded by little coffee bags, a scale, a spoon, and a tall glass with rinsing water in it. There are lots of coffee drips on the counter.

@AskPippa Nowadays, every time I have an appointment downtown I have to mentally prepare myself for a gruelling 1-hour journey, instead of the 30 min it took me *door-to-door* when I used to work downtown.

@MikeTRose Our dog is not allowed on the sofa. He knows he’s not, and so never goes on the sofa… unless we have guests over. Then he just assumes that the rules have *completely changed* and he can jump anywhere he likes!!

More photos from today’s dog parkour event. The same branch, at different angles so you can see how high my young goofball can climb #AustralianShepherd #DogsOfMastodon

Blue Merle miniature Australian shepherd way out on branch straight away from viewer. Orange fall foliage still clinging to surrounding trees. Rail fence appears a long way down.Same dog and branch, this time viewed from the side, so you can see how high he has climbed. Another blue merle mini Aussie, his partner-in-climb, is rearing up at the bottom of the tree—maybe this is the moment he got inspired to go vertical himself!

(In best David Attenborough voice) Two male tree-dogs in their native habitat, 2 meters above the ground. Note the camouflage patterns (some more successful than others), as they try to blend into the background, preparing to ambush any unwary prey. (photo by Jess) #AustralianShepherd #DogsOfMastodon

Two young blue merle miniature Australian shepherds standing on a tree limb jutting away from the crotch of a tree. The branch is angled straight away from our view so you can’t see how far up the dogs are. There is a rail fence behind the tree, which the darker dog will jump over only a few seconds later!
