It seems obvious that we should prioritize addressing misinformation that is more harmful. But what makes something more likely to be harmful? Can we can reason about it before the harm has occurred?

When groups of people make collective judgments, it's not surprising to get uncertainty around the final answer.
Maybe the question is hard? Or perhaps people disagree?
But how do we approach this uncertainty to reach consensus?

Our stellar undergrads in SFL presenting on the great research they did this year! First up we have the UW research symposium, with Pranati, Shreya, and Khushi sharing a poster on a new remote work tool, Andre on medical image uncertainty, and Simona on combating VR harassment!

The harms of engagement optimization and algorithmic amplification are at a boiling point. A @knightcolumbia symposium (Apr 28/29, NYC & online) has a unique set of 17 new papers dissecting the issue and proposing responses. The authors span CS, law, philosophy, psychology, and more. Many have worked on these issues at social media companies. This might be the first time a group like this has come together. Hope to see you there. UX practitioners face tricky challenges when designing ML-enabled interfaces. But can those challenges be mitigated if they could ✨interactively tinker✨ with simple models during the design process? Our #iui2023 paper says yes!
