@eamonfitzpatrick
It reminds me of this rare plant.

This picture illustrates the following:

Threadturnium boltii

The Northallerton Nut and Bolt
plant produces fruiting bodies that
gradually work their way up
threaded stems until ready to pop
off the top when ripe.

Predation by Spanner Weevils,
which unscrew and eat the fruits
before they are ripe, has caused a
serious reduction in numbers.
An endangered species.

The noir we watched on Tuesday at Film Night was Black Angel (1946).

A scene from Black Angel (1946)

Martin Blair (Dan Duryea) tries to stop Mavis Marlowe (Constance Dowling) from making a crucial phone call.

He holds her wrist to prevent her from raising the receiver to her ear. They stare into each other's eyes.

Around this time last year, the Center for Deep Listening launched A Year of Deep Listening, a call for Deep Listening scores in homage to Pauline Oliveros. I decided to take part, and eventually sent in not one, but ten scores - and then I just kept writing more. (Rather predictably in my case, all of them turned out to be soundwalking scores). I was also very pleased when one of them - Ariadne Soundwalk - was selected for A Year of Deep Listening.

Ariadne Soundwalk

  Go out for a walk.
Take a roll of thread, the longest you can carry.
  Also take a paper cup.
Attach one end of the thread to something fixed and stable,
  like a lamp post.
Continue walking, unrolling the thread as you go.
Once the thread is fully unrolled, stop.
Make a hole through the bottom of the paper cup.
Insert the end of the thread in the hole, and secure it by making a knot.
Stretch out the thread until it is tight like a violin string.
Raise the paper cup to your ear.
  Listen.Memory Soundwalk

Think of a place you remember well,
but that you know for certain no longer exists.
Walk to a location near where that place used to be.
Ask a passerby for directions to that place.
Listen/record/think about the replies you receiveFollowing Footsteps (Drift)

Choose a starting point.
  Start recording.
Don't move. Listen. Close your eyes if you find it helps.
Don't move until you hear footsteps nearby.
  Follow the footsteps.
Lose them. Wander around for a while.
  Choose another starting point.
  Don't move. Listen.
Don't move until you hear footsteps nearby.Things You Didn't Hear

At the end of a soundwalk, think back about all the things
you saw, and expected to hear, but failed to.
Make a list.
Organise the sounds in a sequence.
Go out again, this time listening out for these specific sounds.
Try to organise your soundwalk according to the sequence you established.
