@UntoNuggan Robin O'Sullivan or Elizabeth SD Engelhardt might have some work that touches on this. I know Engelhardt has written some about how home demo actually worsened nutrition in Appalachia.

Million dollar idea: Ok, I have now had two incidents where I was in the hospital and having horrific pain that was caused BY THE BED. Someone make a less terrible hospital bed. Like, in the middle of labor: I might die from pain because of the bed. Post abdominal surgery: Why am I dying? Oh it's the bed. Surely this could be fixed.

@TedUnderwood Not really. But ... I also have pretty limited investment of/knowledge of ancient history.

Really liked the new Indiana Jones -- not a perfect movie, but a fun one. The last 10 or so minutes I found quite moving.

T is the best because he figured out how to get my facial piercing back in post surgery. Basically every other time it's come out, I've wound up having to get a pro to reinstall it.

@shadsy I thought it was pretty good! I think sometimes expectations are too high. It's a perfectly nice movie.

@MichaelKlamerus I think it's much more explicitly about immigration and family than the trailer really conveyed.

We went to see Elemental this morning, and I thought it was one of the better romantic comedies I've seen -- like, that isn't a genre I love, but there's a lot of beautiful visuals, the characters feel like whole people. Plus the short prior (Carl's Date) was charming.

Really enjoying the Locating Media Industries conference at King's College London. Thanks to my colleague Matt Payne for organizing the panel and to fellow panelists James Newman and Jennifer deWinter. First time I have been out of the U.S. since before covid.

@paulralph @academicchatter @seresearchers At least one society went to alternate years -- in-person year, then remote year, forever. That seems to be more equitable. I'm sure many will only do alternating years then, but at least in the remote years it's ONLY remote so everyone is in same spot.

I love when men are like "But you haven't proven to me that ... (thing I have said that is true)". Well, cool, bro, you have mistaken me for someone who's here to perform for you and/or cares what you think! Believe me, don't believe me, I hope you stub your toe.

Colorado farmers have “right to repair” farm equipment – Darcy Hitchcock darcyhitchcock.wordpress.com/2

So Governor Jared Polis just signed a Right to Repair law, the first in the nation, that compels manufacturers to provide manuals, tools, parts, and software so farmers can fix their own equipment.

The best #GameDev advice I've read in a long, long time.

I'm going to get "A game succeeds when it fulfills its promises." tattooed on the inside of my eyelids.

My brain desperately wants to know: What Disney princess do you think is most likely a Taurus? I'm currently thinking Belle, because she seems to appreciate decadence and have a sometimes misplaced sense of loyalty.

The Google doodle and attendant video celebrating Willi Ninja is really charming.

@afreytes The one from 1995. It's on Roku and Amazon. Episode I was talking about is in season 2.

I like how Outer Limits has an episode about how extremely terrifying the "troubled teen" industry is. Like, absolutely kids I grew up with got sent to stuff like this, and it was (and is) completely horrific.

Overheard at my house, "Daddy, someday can we go to Meow Wolf and disappear? Because that looks kind of fun for me."
