@darkuncle That "just" is a pretty big adverb. Getting lawyers and technical staff and website folks all aligned is nontrivial cross-division work. But you'd think by now the legal "should we fight this?" analysis would be pretty straightforward now given the precedents for "no we should not."

Another hot job opening in the world of fusion energy — not plasma physics this time, but instead fuel cycle modeling for our ARC power plant.

A croaking raven near Alviso in the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay. One of my favorite birds.

“In the past technologies flowed to the global South from the West, but now more and more comes from China, especially in the clean energy area. This facilitates China’s trade and investment ties. Then, political influence follows, of course.” –Wu Xinbo, dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University in Shanghai

To the delight of any journalist who has to cover Silicon Valley, "roadmap" is approaching "road map" in popular usage. (Historically, English coins new terms by squishing two commonly paired words together, e.g. "backyard.") trends.google.com/trends/explo

I've got a Mastoduh question: If you hover over the follow button on someone's profile and see that it includes a "do not" circle that disallows following, does that mean they've blocked you, or that they have just turned off new followers? Or maybe something else? Thanks!

"If Waymo’s results are indicative of the broader future of autonomous vehicles, we may be on the path to eliminating traffic deaths as a leading cause of mortality in the United States. While many see this as a tech story, I view it as a public health breakthrough."

Aside: When do we get to start writing "lidar" like we do with "sonar" and "radar"?

A good rain-on-the-parade list of sci-fi conveniences/clichés. (I like sci-fi, but if you want a reality check with how hard even getting off Earth is, you can start with a City on Mars.)
