There are still more details, but I'll leave it here.
I believe tools for those writing alt text which include image description AI could contribute to web accessibility.
To actually contribute they need to include and deeply understand the needs of Visually Impaired people relying on alt text. Current tools seem to largely prioritize the time and effort of those writing alt text over equal access to the web.
Questions or comments? I am happy to chat here or via email: hannah@alt-text.org

Whenever people complain about their favorite intellectual property from their childhood becoming “woke” it’s usually because it simply went over their heads as kids.
@RIDDLES wow I was ready to see if they made stickers... This is the future the liberals want.
@Sobieck I especially like the section where it claims that the IA could make studies MORE diverse somehow?? Are these people not aware that's an EXISTING REAL PROBLEM with LLMs?
@BritishTechGuru @VeroniqueB99 hey there's this thing called poverty, and sometimes people are stuck in it. We like to keep them there.
These jobs are not an accident or an oversight, they are a virtue in societies that enforce extreme class systems through wages and financial wealth. Want to stop people of color, queer folks, and whoever the fuck else from participating in society while claiming it's their own fault? Solution: create worse-than-shit jobs and stop hiring those people for anything else.
Step two: sell them drugs, and then get mad about it. Arrest 'em and sell their labor back to yourself. Profit.
@Dave_von_S @zanshin @hazelweakly oh thank the lord I'm not the only one who thinks this
Let's see if I can say this gently, so that nobody will get their knickers in a knot:
Hey anybody working in cybersecurity, wannabe-peer and queer American dude speaking!
Cops are an APT.
Republicans are an APT.
The cop in your heart is an APT.
Who are you really working for?
What are you securing?
Why?
In search of examples of websites/apps/tech as art. Thinking of immersive digital photo exhibits, poetry collections, multimedia/mixed media, or anything. Especially interested in queer activist artwork that is designed for a web medium first. Not sure where to start...

@jalefkowit I can't get past "over the top accents" and "some episodes were duds" 😂
@docpop @jordesign any time I hear the words "wix" and "WordPress" in the same sentence, my soul splinters a bit. I think this is how horcruxes are made.
Wikipedia's vision is of a world in which everyone can freely share in the sum of all human knowledge. But we cannot achieve that when we are missing so much knowledge about women.
This #WomensHistoryMonth, join us in closing the gender knowledge gap on Wikipedia and across the Wikimedia projects.

Hi Fedi Family,
In 2008 Californians voted for Prop8 that defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman in the California constitution. While this was defeated in courts this draconian Prop8 language is still in the California constitution. Justice tHomas and the right wing SCOTUS is openly hinting at destroying precedent and trampling rights. If they overturned Obergefell - the Prop8 language in the California Constitution will act as a “trigger law”, raining havoc on queer families like mine across California.
Please spread the word to vote “YES” to repeal Prop8 (2008) from the California constitution in Nov 2024. Talk to your friends, family and colleagues about it.
Boosts appreciated.

I did a double take on this headline in a DLCC press release.
Screw you Google Chrome!
Nobody: ...
Google Chrome ads on Youtube: "Switch to chrome to stop malware, that way you won't get phished."
This is really scammers' playbook isn't it? This is like calling up ol people, hoping they get worked up because you used the words "malware" and "phishing," and hoping to make a sale.
