@Will that resonates with me as well. I've seen that from older members of my own immigrant community. Straight into the model minority trap, not recognizing that you become the useful idiot.

Here to nerd out about #Bikes, livable cities, and tech that makes the world better

@Matt5sean3 @scottbeckett thanks for the heads up, and for the time and effort that you put into running the instance! Definitely understand the cost pressure
@chrisod Such a burden, to have to consume a piece of lovely cheese every day in December before Christmas
Just over a year with the Xtracycle #CargoBike - 2000 miles of car trips avoided and smiles added. I love this thing
OH: A coworker just shared a term she uses to describe meetings that go astray when certain coworkers bloviate. “Non-consensual TED talk.”
Sometimes I think about what an incredible privilege it was to grow up bilingual, in a multicultural household. To start off life knowing in my bones that the world was wide and that differences were interesting, not frightening. Grateful ❤️
@enobacon @DontMindMe not here in VA - seems like VA Dems finally got the message that there are no off years here
As a trans person
I cannot tell you how it feels in 2023 to see Danica Roem elected Senator.
👏👏👏👏👏
@Nickiquote @halfempty If I had to choose between spending a day with Elon Musk or hearing Vogon poetry, I'd go with Vogon poetry.
@daihard I find a swipe-based input system like SwiftKey is the fastest way to type on a tablet, and even then it's nowhere close to touch typing
Quite an interesting "think bigger" proposal for #WMATA #Metrorail https://ggwash.org/view/91560/for-wmata-to-make-the-biggest-impact-it-should-think-beyond-just-metrorail
If you want something to warm your heart, the Central Bucks School District was the quintessential "billionaire pays to put fascists on school board who deny COVID exists, harass LGBTQ teachers and students, and ban books."
They just ate a mouthful of shit and lost control.
@e_urq Yeah, I'd started to think about the long list of things that would need to be done to prep my house for sale...so glad to be able to put that list down for now. My local board of supervisors even shifted left, which is a good sign.
@Itchy I'm not sure I'd classify one-seat majorities in both houses and an opposition governor "full control" of the legislature
@gmrva I do wonder what might have been in HD-57 though - Bob Shippee was IMO the better candidate, but would that have changed the result last night? Real Sliding Doors-type scenario there, hard to say how things would've been different. All credit to Susanna Gibson for fighting on though - big overperformance to expectations considering VA Dems hung her out to dry
@gmrva As a Brookland district resident, Schmitt has proven to be pragmatic and open to progress on active transport even as a Republican. I'm hopeful for an acceleration in the pace of active transportation projects in Henrico
Good to see progressives win on US school board elections overnight (Iowa, Virginia, Pennsylvania) fending off so-called #MomsForLiberty who want to restrict what books young people can read.
