Recovering politician. InfoSec professional. Still trying to make the world a better place. He/him.
#infosec experts debate the policy of banning ransomware payments.
Reminded me of a committee when an AB Party MLA asked the gov to buy crypto as "insurance" for ransoms.
Shocked, I asked her staff if she had misspoke. No, that was the goal. 🤦

48hrs, delivery meals for two days, and a little less sleep than I would have liked but pleased to share I am OSEP certified.
The course prepared me with the knowledge I needed, combined with using Sliver as my C2, this was a hard exam but I learned a lot during the course.
@kurtseifried Yes
Has anyone asked Check Point if they're okay?
If anybody wants an immediate nostalgia gut punch, spin up a Windows XP VM and wait for the login chime.
Why yes, I would like a tour of all the exciting new features.
Defcon is cancelled
The folks at Defcon tamper evident village were extremely helpful in making sure I had access to my laptop
For those not on the bird site. I'm thrilled to be joining Renderman for a defcon talk this year.

I'm thrilled to share that I've been accepted into the NYU Tandon MS Cybersecurity program! Starting in the fall of 2023, I'll dive headfirst into cybersecurity and expand my knowledge in this ever-changing field.
As someone passionate about technology and cybersecurity, I'm excited to gain new skills and insights through this program. Staying on top of the latest tech and strategies is crucial to keeping our institutions secure and citizens safe.
I can't wait to see where this journey takes me and how I can use my newfound expertise to make a positive impact.
Okay, #infosec and #academia folks.
Hypothetical question for you, if you were accepted to both the GATech OMS Cybersecurity and the NYU Tandon MSc Cybersecurity (with Cyber fellowship), which school would you go to and why?
The tuition cost is comparable with the fellowship, and they would be taken online/hybrid.
10 people being shot dead during a #LunarNewYear celebration is not just a tragedy, it's the fuel for nightmares.
I spent the night with family and had dinner with my 94 year old grandmother. We talked about what opportunities and hope we had for the next year.
When this senseless violence is committed against Asians during one of the largest celebrations of the year, it's a reminder that there are still too many people who don't speak up against #asianhate.
@JustAnotherJay
I think you just need to start a ZeroTrust account (it's near the bottom on the left menu bar)
This morning I unironically said to someone:
"It's only -24C so it's nice that it's warmed up."
So this week has been going well.
Who else is doing the TryHackMe Advent of Cyber this year?
I finished Day 1 before getting out of bed, so we'll see how long we can keep the streak going!
If you care about security and want to switch to (or get more) yubikeys. Now is the time. If you sign up for a free Cloudflare zerotrust account and click the banner link, the promo is ridiculous.
This isn't even sponsored I'm just that excited about it.
I cannot emphasize this enough, if you've ever used Twitter credentials to log into anything else you need to figure out how to get out from under that as soon as you can.
For those here in the gloriousness that is infosec.exchange, consider donating to help run the instance - it's seen a MASSIVE uptick in usage with some huge names moving across with their followers. Anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated!
And yes, before you ask, I have donated. I wouldn't ask people to do something I'm not willing to do 💜
@mfenniak maybe this unsolicited advice is a month late but ZFS snapshots are a godsend for management/recovery if you ever need it.
