Deliberately didn’t take my big camera to the campground so I don’t go off alone for hours on end hunting beetles. Almost immediately found an extremely photogenic beetle I’ve never seen before.

But I’m still pleased with the decision: Mr 10 was very enthusiastic to help me out with the phone photos.

@jencmars I didn’t know them, but I’m an instant fan!

@nev I am extremely surprised! Also the photos of larvae carrying their egg case houses around are delightful. I will check back regularly just in case I get to enjoy that too.

Not Neuroptera! Apparently leaf beetles, tribe Clytrini. ecoevo.social/@rspfau/11473552

@rspfau oh WOW thank you! That’s awesome! @LeamValley@universeodon.com

A quartet of shots. Unidentified beetle, unidentified beetle larva that iNaturalist auto-suggest thinks may be Ablattaria, a medium-small longhorn beetle, and a closeup of a rose chafer to show off its incredible colours. #insects #beetles #MacroPhotography

I don’t know what this is but the colour is just fabulous. #beetles #MacroPhotography

Here’s the detail shot of those odd little structures. I still think eggs, perhaps Neuroptera? If you have any ideas please help out at inaturalist.org/observations/2

Tiny blobby structures, perhaps insect eggs, on delicate white stalks rising above a leaf.

@nev we get lacewings, antlions & owlflies here, it could well be. I didn’t see any sign of any other slime mold structures, but I know very little about them. Better photo coming up with an iNat observation.

@nev similar size to ladybird eggs, a little fatter and shorter.

Whose eggs are these?! #MacroPhotography

@lemondisco They’re a wonderful shape. And their movement is great too, that neck sways forward and then they follow it with a sinuous snakey movement. I think of them as tiny dragons.

Snakefly! Found on the inside of a window, released back into the back garden.

It’s #WeevilWednesday (actually on Wednesday for a change). #beetles #weevils #insects This is actually the lesser of my two weevils for today, no kidding.

@pkviatko “all the better for looking at you my dear” Didn’t occur to me but I suppose they do
