@deoxys314 Lego city has always been the line that I liked the best. The pieces can be more easily reused in other builds and honestly trying to create real-world inspired stuff seems to force them to make cooler sets than just whatever is the minimum to recognizably recreate a given scene from a movie

@lfa I always leave mine set to bash and will manually remap those which defaulted to sh to bash just out of keeping all of my systems the same but I've definitely liked the alternate shells like zsh when I've used them

@ottaross this is kinda on the same vein as my complaints about my local new media reporting. They basically just rewrite whatever the police told them and give no context whatsoever, and never follow up on stories that could really use a follow-up

Like in one case it was a single paragraph article about the police being called to a school regarding a student's behavior. Is this a common occurrence? How many times have police been called to this school for misbehaving students compared to other areas schools? What exactly am I supposed to do with this information?

@jay_peper As someone who stopped drinking coffee I'm gonna have to steal this one!

I think there's two other big factors at play as well:

1. The Steam Desk keeps proving with great hardware and great software integration that Linux is a viable desktop and handheld operating system

2. The declining home computer market. Most "not computer people" no longer have a home computer and just do everything on their phone offloading to a work computer or "the cloud" as needed, so the remaining home desktop users are power users, enthusiasts or those resistant to change, all conveniently demographics that tend to have reasons to like Linux

Last night I managed a new #bike achievement! 21 miles! I also biked the trail that runs to the next city over and back! An absolute wonderful sunset bike ride!

#BikeTooter #BikeRide

A photo of my silver bicycle stopped on a paved trail. There's wildflowers on the edge of the trail, fields trailing off into the distance and a few trees dotted about. The sky is mostly clear with a few clouds and the first colors peeking across the sky of an impending sunset

@ascentale @MartyCormack @bikenite if you really want a shocking statistic to put it into perspective, over 36,000 cars crash into buildings every year in the US. That's over 100 vehicles crashing into buildings every day!

2025-07-19

@MartyCormack @ascentale @paul_edwin @bikenite I quit coffee a couple of years ago (I just didn't like being dependant on caffeine) so now that I'm really getting into fitness it's kinda eye opening how many fitness drinks/foods have shedloads of caffeine in them. I just want the electrolytes and a few calories to keep it up a little further, man!

2025-07-19

@ascentale oh yeah and I've started biking down my town's local #trail network here in beautiful #Wisconsin. It's only about 6 miles or so to bike down to it, ride basically all of it and return home, but it does connect to a much longer Intercity trail which at some point I need to tackle. That Intercity trail is gently uphill almost the entire way to the next town so despite the distance itself being manageable, I've never gotten further than the first bridge, but that's my goal for the season is to ride to the next town and back!

2025-07-19

@ascentale @bikenite I hit a new personal best on Tuesday and biked 15 miles! I'm getting to the point where my limit is less distance but the time I have to ride. I probably could've gone further but it was after 9:30PM when I returned home so I needed to get my after-ride routine going and get to bed

In a couple of weeks I'll be going on my first charity ride/group ride. It's an 18 mile ride called the Tour De Cheese. A bit of a drive to get there but should be good fun! #bikenite

@anslua I've been looking for some newer bands to listen to! Great stuff!

@exquisite this is an approach I've been taking at work too! I try to avoid the term "users" since it can be used by some in the IT field to distance themselves from their coworkers in other departments

Last night I started reading The Clockwork Dynasty by Daniel H Wilson and it's really neat. The basic premise seems to be taking the real historical accounts of automata and going "what if they were as alive as these historical figures describe them to be?" And then weaving together an alternate history that fits into our own real world history

I picked it up from the #library when aimlessly wandering the #scifi section after stopping in to print a document and the #clockwork themed font on the spine caught my eye

@tayfonay I said yes because some of my extended family are alcoholics but don't yet realize it and have on multiple occasions drank excessively at events involving the kids (Christmas, thanksgiving, a couple of anniversary parties, etc.)

My wife and I will drink lightly at events but we make sure to agree beforehand on if we're okay with one of us drinking and which of us is to be the designated parent. We also very rarely drink (maybe once or twice a year, if at all) so that also makes it more enjoyable when we do

@maxleibman @TheBreadmonkey watching Iron Man and Iron Man 2 back to back was a little jarring seeing all of the Sun Microsystems racks get swapped for Dell Poweredges

@redsad I'll be real, I thought ACAB was Assigned Cop At Birth for way too long

2025-07-15

@TheBreadmonkey I generally can't pay attention if there's a TV playing something, but once while I had a couple of friends over I put on a train cab ride video which really did the trick of easing the lulls between conversation but also not preventing or derailing (haha see what I did there?) conversation

For example, here's 3 hours watching out the back of an Amtrak train running from New York City to Washington DC: youtu.be/VFDX1SI028I

@mwl sounds to me like we should be using that service to send AI generated media to each other to help speed up model collapse!

For those that are unaware, AI models trained on datasets made up of AI generated data produce lower quality outputs, which is a rapidly growing challenge for AI companies to manage

Only managed 6 miles tonight on my new fairly hilly regular #bike route. Found halfway through the ride that my front breaks were dragging and had to adjust them on the fly! For how trash I feel about the short distance I rode, I'm super stoked that I made it all the way up the super steep hill on the gravel portion of the ride for the first time! #BikeTooter #trails

Also bonus storm damage along the gravel trail portion:
