If you’re at #shmoocon and want free career mentoring or resume reviews I’m volunteering at @brysonbort charity event this evening.
There was a time in the history of this planet when plants had evolved lignin for their woody tissues, but microbes hadn't yet evolved to digest lignin. The result was that woody plant tissues accumulated in the environment, eventually becoming coal beds. Eventually microbes evolved to digest lignin though and that era was over.
Today, we have another organic material accumulating in the environment because microbes don't digest it -- plastics.
An enterprising environmental activist with a genetic engineering background should develop strains of bacteria and fungus that love to digest all of our commonly used polymers and release them into the environment without asking permission.
It would mean that all our plastic stuff would start rotting, but at least we wouldn't have microplastics in our brains and testicles.
(I know that there are some isolated cases of some microbes that show the ability to digest plastics, but they aren't prevalent and not solving the plastic problem, so don't feel that you need to tell me that)
2nd test. Still negative but I do have concrud symptoms.
ODEON Social Club is teaming up with The Tooolbox for a free lock picking workshop tomorrow night!
The coffee drinkers dilemma:
You are so under-caffeinated that you forget to put the container under the running coffee grinder, thus not getting any coffee.
This Recall thing seems to me to be an excuse for microsoft to monitor workers more. Yes its a privacy shit show but it continues the trend of dehumanizing workers and using them to train AI.
Dear Hackers,
Public libraries, and libraries in general, are not your enemies. They are some of the last places in the world where people can go, hang out, and do things without any expectation of money changing hands. They are a physical manifestation of file sharing and a corporeal form of torrenting. That in mind, libraries are chronically underfunded and they're currently under attack by right-wing politicians and fascists, but I suppose I repeat myself there.
As such, they make lousy targets for ransomware attacks. Chances are, you're not likely to see any money because they have no money to pay you. All you've done is hurt those who are less fortunate than you, you've hurt children, you've hurt students, and you've made no progress towards "sticking it to the man" or whatever.
For god's sake, leave the library alone. Or maybe, come visit one sometime.
Thanks,
Cyberpunk Librarian

I got ahold of the Copilot+ software.
Recall uses a bunch of services themed CAP - Core AI Platform. Enabled by default.
It spits constant screenshots (the product brands then “snapshots”, but they’re hooked screenshots) into the current user’s AppData as part of image storage.
The NPU processes them and extracts text, into a database file.
The database is SQLite, and you can access it as the user including programmatically. It 100% does not need physical access and can be stolen.
Capital is dumping its resources into AI because it believes it will advance capital's interests of further accumulation of labour's products. It does not matter in the short term that capital is sorely mistaken. Much like a bad king, capital's misallocation reduces output available to labour too (by preferentially allocating resources to those who participate in the squander). We will suffer this for so long as we permit capital to make macro allocative decisions.
how am I supposed to manage IT risk at my company when EVERY SINGLE VENDOR is throwing our private data into AI models that can be tricked into leaking it.

My office spent almost $2,000 on a pan-tilt-zoom iot camera for streaming earthquake press conferences, and it's never been used because it got infected with the Mirai botnet malware after they connected it to the internet.
I don't even see anything in the manual for how to do a factory reset so the camera can be fixed and used again.
okay so i'm starting my homelab off on a clean slate. what hypervisor/virtualization environment do i go with

People, the cloud isn’t magic. Secure your shit, manage your IDs, and stop storing your api keys in the open source code you commit to GitHub.

Hey folks, DC215 won't have a speaker this month. Come hang out anyway! We'll be over on 11th and Vine at the TOOOLBox! Hope to see you there!
