CPO & Marketing for an indie travel publisher. I get to help make books, maps, and apps. Always excited to talk about books, conservation, hiking, nature, and outdoor access for all. Big believer that you don’t have to travel far to have a great outdoor experience. #bewellbeoutdoors

I have a similar list for the day job, but this is really helpful for anyone curious about who's publishing comics, and who owns which imprints. It's not comprehensive, but it's a solid starting point that she'll likely expand.

For libraries, it's also helpful for knowing which are Big 5 imprints that will make it harder to get their ebooks at a fair price. 😐

@glecharles you’re not alone there. And it’s not just the “multi-sensory” bit (which was great & oddly comforting), but I miss the ritual/habit of the Sunday paper as well. Something about prioritizing that time in a quieter house with a clearly defined curated set of information…. all the sounds, smells, and paper folding you mention… just hasn’t been replicated.

When we throw up our hands and say none of it matters, we're doing the fascists’ work for them. They don't need to hide their corruption if they can convince us it's pointless to look. They don't need to silence truth-tellers if we've already decided truth is meaningless.

@rlounsbury They sound amazing! Thanks for sharing this. I think I may now be a fan of the Palp Festival, too. I'd never heard of that one, but man THAT is a venue.

@glennf @vermessungsbibliothek both the print and the "Vom Fels zum Meer" find are very cool!

2025-06-13

@glennf That's pretty cool. Was it originally a display card? In a book? Magazine?

@glecharles I'll be sure to share. I hear you on Reddit as well. It never really clicks until you go waaaay deep on topics and understand the way folks label the channels (that was my hurdle anyway). But if folks on these fedi services are full of decent folks like I've bumped into on Mastodon - I'll suffer the lack of features and maybe even enjoy the sound of crickets - if I'm the only one there. I had never heard of Lemmy or PieFed.

This handy chart appeared in a #fediverse promo video created by @_elena Very handy. I was unaware of all these options and am looking forward to exploring the Reddit alternatives. #TheFutureIsFederated

The more I learn about atmospheric chemistry, the more terrified and angry I am about satellite companies' blatant lack of consideration for how their actions will harm the atmosphere. I hope this gets a lot of press. Great work by a whole team of scientists, including @astrokiwi.bsky.social!

@ghost.org Two things on my Ghost 6.0 Wishlist: I’d love an easy way to create a TAGS list page where I can toggle the visibility of tags I'd like to promote. Also, it'd be great to have some kind of media manager for images and PDF files linked in posts. #ghost

My periodic rave at how much I love #RSS (I am tying together lots of data for my work) and how it is truly the glue that holds together much of the open web. We are so lucky it gained critical mass before the worst of Web 2.0 took over and that it has lasted. We need to keep it alive at all costs.

"Sometimes I can’t believe there was ever a time when I used to be able to simply tweet a hot take and an editor would ask in my DMs if I wanted to write about it for their publication. I didn’t know how good I had it! That era is over." Maris Kreizman

Being a published author has been so ridiculously glamorized over the years, I'm always glad to see someone with a notable platform being transparent and candid about their experience.

IMPORTANT SERVER NEWS: "The Next Stage for Indieweb.social

"I’d been looking for a way to transition this from a small self-run server, admin-centric place—and to turn it into a more user-managed one...I am grateful to have found a solution for all of these needs for this community:

As of April, IndieWeb.social will be owned and managed by the Newsmast Foundation while they move its governance to a user-managed direction..."

"I do not want a computer to summarise texts sent by my friends into shorter sentences, as though the work of being updated on the lives of those I love is somehow strenuous or not what being alive is all about."

Writer and painter Joseph Earp nails it in this Guardian essay.

@glecharles that’s a pretty good read on the various sides of it all. I didn’t think about the implications of a former Redditor making a play against Reddit.

2025-03-06

@glecharles I have my fingers crossed that they'll bake in ActivityPub from day one. It could be fun if the Fediverse had their own ‘front page of the web’ site with native support.

The Ai stuff doesn't excite me, but if they stay privately held the newly relaunched Digg.com could be fun. I remember all the blogs having their Digg buttons prominently displayed. Curious to see what all they do with Digg theverge.com/social/624073/dig

Here we go again... surely she left some "never before seen" grocery lists lying around that someone can publish as well. 🙄 maybe these will be edited better than Watchman? Maybe? #books

@glecharles can’t beat it. Only downside is deciding if you need wine, coffee, or bourbon.
