Hey Resorts World Las Vegas: It's wrong to treat all hackers as dangerous, and to attempt to penalize people just for owning the tools of the trade. These tools have productive uses, as demonstrated by the massive convention of professional security researchers taking place. 404media.co/hotel-to-search-ro

In my spare time I like to call my friends' employers pretending to be from a rival firm and say my friend has put them down as a reference for a fictional new job. Two have received pay rises and been begged not to leave.

As an archivist, let me say clearly:

Modern copyright law is actively harmful to the preservation and study of our culture.

It harms artists by giving undue power to publishers. It harms artists by limiting remixes. It harms preservation and research efforts.

It's broken. It's bad. It should be massively reformed.

funding for news-- canada tried a link tax (not going well) and now canada trying a tax-- seems more straight forward.

personally I would like to see funding go to open access, non-profit news orgs like propublica.

@eff do you have a question box for inquiring minds? Thanks.

@attoparsec would be cool to mill it into a lighthouse-style fresnel lens, w led’s inside.

I’ve said before that the most precious part of the Web are the pre-Facebook forums run by enthusiasts of specific domains (say, owners of a model of motorbike). There’ll be knowledge there from crusty old riders that means the difference between success and failure at doing what you want to do.

It’s exactly this kind of specific knowledge, like knowing the right steps and way to adjust the valve clearances on a bike, that is threatened by AI content mills, because an LLM doesn’t know if it’s 0.15mm or 15mm, and doesn’t care

THEY DID IT!!!!

My local library built the seed library!

The local Master Gardeners provided a lot of the intitial seeds (oh my gosh we are stocked!!!). They used an old card catalogue to store them. Today's the kickoff!

The idea is you "check out seeds" from the library, plant/grow/harvest, let some go to seed, then "return the seeds" back to the library!

Free seeds for everyone!

@MildDrop72 @wikipedia @molly0xfff
Excellent thanks.

There is no compelling need for #BenGurionCanal #Wikipedia article deletion, especially when Israel is signatory to the new #G20 India < > Middle East < > European Union trade corridor agreement (September ‘23).
It appears exploratory canal engineering was conducted mid-20th century, which is highly relevant to what regional trade routes may present themselves today.

Got the safety poster in a protective frame and hung it at the shop. It's from the "Shipbuilding" publishing house in Leningrad in 1972 and reads "REMEMBER! THIS MACHINE DOES NOT FORGIVE MISTAKES"

I've hung it over the pedestal buffer/grinder that came with a wire wheel on one side, a very useful machine that I am utterly terrified of. I'm fairly used to machines that simply want to remove and/or crush my extremities -- this one wants to *flense* them.

Corner of a finished room, with a large grey Baldor polisher/grinder sitting in the corner at an angle. On the walls are an old breaker box, a fire extinguisher arrow sign (pointing down), a copper air line drop with valve, and a A1 sized poster somewhat awkwardly mounted in a cheap 24" x 36" poster frame. It features a hand being held up in front of a large, stylized gear, both done in sketchy blacks and tans. The index finger has a chunky bandage on it. There is Russian writing over this in red block capitals.
