@Iwillyeah It's an interesting decision, but it's a storage space now.

@QueenVagabond They are going to sell a 240 mile battery version. And the backup camera is required by law now, like the front sensor braking system.

@oberstenzian I'd rather have Honda do something similar since there more likely to actually get a car to market, though at the rate they are moving, there might not be a US to get a basic functional electrical car that is cheap to.

I like the idea of it, regardless of who kicked money in to finance the company.

"Scared of Trump" doesn't really matter to me, and while I don't want to line his pockets any more but if the car really did what it says it wants to, it's worth considering.

@octothorpe Maybe so, but 30K is 20K less than the average cost of a new car, so it's still a value. Would I rather see all these Japanese and European small cars; yes. But I wouldn't mind *them* taking this back to basics approach ether.

Shadow Gambit and Shadow Tactics are *beautiful* and fun isometric stealth games from Mimimi. Easy to pick up, but challenging.

The dev studio, Mimimi, sadly closed in 2023 but did it to spend time with family after being ground by the pressure of making games. They paid bonuses and wound down the company, instead of crashing and leaving people unpaid, so my respect for that.

These games are really great and worth your time.

@TreeVor 100% I know it's an uphill climb, but it really sounds like a smart plan for what they are trying to do. And appealing as well. I could see this as a lot of people's first car, then expand it to the 5 seater later to keep it going if it lasts.

I hope this gets to market and works as advertised. Love the idea of a stripped down EV, especially the infotainment systems which are usually obsolete in a year. If they really do offer specs so you can customize it even more for yourself with 3D printing, that's more a bonus.

When I was a PhD student, I attended a talk by the late Robin Milner where he said two things that have stuck with me.

The first, I repeat quite often. He argued that credit for an invention did not belong to the first person to invent something but to the first person to explain it well enough that no one needed to invent it again. His first historical example was Leibniz publishing calculus and then Newton claiming he invented it first: it didn’t matter if he did or not, he failed to explain it to anyone and so the fact that Leibniz needed to independently invent it was Newton’s failure.

The second thing, which is a lot more relevant now than at the time, was that AI should stand for Augmented Intelligence not Artificial Intelligence if you want to build things that are actually useful. Striving to replace human intelligence is not a useful pursuit because there is an abundant supply of humans and you can improve the supply of intelligent humans by removing food poverty, improving access to education, and eliminating other barriers that prevent vast numbers of intelligent humans from being able to devote time to using their intelligence. The valuable tools are ones that do things humans are bad at. Pocket calculators changed the world because being able to add ten-digit numbers together orders of magnitude faster allowed humans to use their intelligence for things that were not the tedious, repetitive, tasks (and get higher accuracy for those tasks). If you want to change the world, build tools that allow humans to do more by offloading things humans are bad at and allowing them to spend more time on things humans are good at.

A reminder: The reason so many firms on their websites constantly urge you to install and use their apps instead of their websites is that the apps typically give them access to VASTLY more data about you and your activities. Don't fall for it.
