At Goodwill dropoff earlier this afternoon. Asked the older Black gentleman who helped me unload how he was doing. “I’m getting the hell out of this country,” he said. “I served in the Marines for 36 years and they treat me like shit. I’m going to Italy and I’m not coming back.”

I miss being in my 20s, going out the night before Thanksgiving and drinking entirely too much, coming home well after midnight and still needing to bake a pie to bring to the house of whoever’s parents were hosting all the hungover 20-somethings the next day.

Maybe I just miss being in my 20s.

I forgot to add alt text - my apologies. It’s a picture of the front of my house at dusk. I hung up my Christmas lights today on the three tall pines that sit just off my porch. They look like giant Christmas trees. The lights are rainbow colors.

Tis the season, already, somehow. And once again, we can use all the joy we can get. Sending extra love and support to my LGBTQ+ friends today - there’s nothing I can say to heal the grief, but I love you and my life is better because you exist.
