Not-so-silent Sunday. Very impressed that the #iPhone16 can do decent portrait mode #photography even from ~20 ft away with the telephoto lense.

@EvilAbedNadir loving Rosie Tucker! Some songs kind of sounds like Regina Spector. βWhile Palantir sells us to LAPDβ¦β :blobChefKiss:
Hey fellow Android devs! A couple Mastodon tips:
When posting about Android development, include the #AndroidDev hashtag. Mastodon doesnβt have a fancy mind-reading algorithm, so this helps people find stuff theyβre looking for. This even works across instances!
And if youβre looking for Android dev content, you can actually follow the #AndroidDev hashtag itself! Then youβll automatically get any tagged posts on your timeline, from any federated instances.

The closer I get to this stuff, the clearer it is to me that "addict/surveil/extract/sell" biz models have ruined the internet really are wrecking mental health, propagating disinfo, dissolving social cohesion, etc. with very little real compensating upside. I think the case for this gets stronger everyday. But there is a TON of resistance to this among "tech people" generally, even those who work for places that would benefit from the demise of surveillance capitalism.
Breaking news: I've just bought a motorised sofa bed. More on this as it unfolds.
Cannabis gummies should come with extras that don't have anything in them for snacking on.

But wasting the money, time, and resources of workers increases the property income of the wealthy who invested in office buildings. And we know what's the important thing is here, right?
It isn't being in offices that makes employees want to keep working from home though the covid risks do rise significantly.
It's the aggravation of commuting -- and the huge waste of time and money.

ME: [has anxiety] I am anxious
SOME GUY: You don't have anything to be anxious about
ME: Ahhh, perfect, I have been cured
Monkeybrains has moved into the building and they announced their new residency by arriving with cops. They called my comrades squatters, announced their intention to give the adjacent residents free internet & that they're going to throw disco parties on the parcel. They got started last night with a drunken staff party on the loading dock.
Basically, their plan is to try create an easement on the 22nd street gate.
Wow.
For 8 years #Monkeybrains has been my ISP and my recommendation to everyone in SF who would listen.
They are now attempting a hostile takeover of the #MissionGreenway, public land that neighbors have been trying to open up to all for years. Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it.

@jec The Times threatened staff/writers who signed the letter of protest against the paper's promotion of bigotry.
Essentially, the paper's response was, "There's absolutely nothing wrong with our coverage of trans issues. We're dropping a very strongly worded hint that if we catch employees complaining again they might not work here anymore. Also, we'll probably never publish any non-employee's writing here again because of this 'indiscretion.' Fuck all of you."
Still amazed as ever that Twitter keeps passing App Store Review
I'm still deeply skeptical that it's a good idea to power a "search engine" with a language model that can't tell truth from fiction and actively invents material like a skilled improv artist, even when it's just supposed to be summarizing content
Given all the crazy happening on Twitter this morning, where Elon is shutting down free SMS Two Factor Authentification, putting it behind a paywall, it seems like a good time to post this:
This server and all Mastodon servers have built-in Two-Factor for free - and we strongly encourage everyone to enable this. Here is how.

In retrospect pretty funny for a guy to write down 95 complaints against the Catholic church and stick it on their door like a passive aggressive roommate
