2024 December 3

The potential zone for meteorites from #2024XA1 appears to be >20 km away from the nearest road and a few kilometers from some forestry access paths; with dense hilly forest and some streams that will be frozen right now.

Not an easy place for a meteorite search.

Today on the #arXiv :

Gianotto et al. 2025, "The fall of asteroid 2024 XA1 and the location of possible meteorites" - arxiv.org/abs/2502.09712

"Since the impact occurred in a remote area of the Sakha Republic (Russia) with difficult environmental conditions, we do not expect an immediate search."

Which is an understatement for the terrain bits of #2024XA1 landed on.

#C0WEPC5 is now designated #2024XA1: minorplanetcenter.net/mpec/K24.

The Minor Planet Center also lists everyone who observed the asteroid before impact.

The catalogue coincidence may be confusing to some readers, so to emphasize:

There is _ no _ relationship between #2024XA1 and #2024XA.
