City of South Fulton Announces Inaugural ‘Global South Film Festival with Actors Malik Yoba, Terrell Carter and more!
The City of South Fulton is excited to announce the inaugural Global South Film Festival, a celebration of diverse storytelling, culture, and innovation from filmmakers of the African diaspora. This incredible display of black films will take place from Monday November 18 through Thursday November 21 at the South Fulton Southwest Arts Center.
This landmark event will showcase work from both seasoned and emerging filmmakers, featuring a special guest appearance by Terrell Carter, star of Netflix’s recent #1 show “Beauty in Black,” and 3x NAACP Image Award-winning actor, philanthropist and entrepreneur Malik Yoba, who will present his thought-provoking documentary “Flipping the Hood: From the Ground Up.”
The festival will bring together a dynamic lineup of films, enriching discussions, and networking opportunities for filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts alike. Attendees can look forward to screenings of a variety of films that focus on unique narratives and cultural experiences.
The week’s schedule:
Monday, November 18 – “Doubles” by Ian Harnarine
Special guest moderator: Terrell Carter
Description: A young Trinidadian street vendor must travel to Toronto and decide if he will help save his estranged father from dying in this family drama. The child of immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago, Canadian filmmaker Ian Harnarine-named of of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” – drew upon his own experience dealing with a parent’s illness to create a poignant meditation on what can be lost in the search for a better life.

Special Guest: African Drum artist Frankie Malloy

Special Guests: The Family of Johnny Hollman
Description: “What About the Deacon?” Is a documentary by Just Eldredge Media that examines the tragic case of Deacon Johnny Hollman, a 63 year old man killed by an Atlanta police officer and a tow truck driver after calling for help with a minor fender bender. More than a year later neither has been indicted, casting a shadow over Atlanta’s judicial system. The film highlights the resilient fight of Deacon Hollman’s children and the community as they demand justice.

It is my goal to highlight the rich tapestry of voices and stories that reflect the heart and soul of people from African decent,” said South Fulton Mayor khalid kamau. “This festival is not just about films; it’s about coming together as a community to celebrate creativity and bring visibility to the diverse causes represented in the films.”
