Hey Fedi
Looking to change my system configuration Any ideas?
Was on Fedora, moved to (Guix, Arch, NonGuix) with EXWM, prolly switching back to Fedora for now.
Wants
- Rolling Release
- Emacs keybinding everywhere
- Clipboard-Kill-ring integration
- Minimal packaging(I should be able to identify and remove excess easily)
- Modular dependencies
- Preconfigured systemd or similar for the following:
- Multi-monitor support (I only want access to reconfigure the default display, highDPI scaling per diaplay, etc.)
- Wireless Networking (reconfiguration is important, but having WiFi shut off automatically when WiFi is connected is a good default, but I would also want to configure it to default to my phone or external wofi adapter when I was not connected to the Ethernet)
- Wayland
- Emacs installed by default
- Easily obtained support for DRM encumbered media(I don't mind installing from non-official repos)
Pluses
- Ungoogled Chromium browser as a default
- Mouseless interface
- Configurable display of system telemetry
- Nyxt or similar hinting to make keyboard nav on the web seemless
- Guix or pacman as the package manager
- Tiling Window Management
Annoyances
- Firefox removal breaks the whole OS
- Linux-Libre kernel (I want to use it, but my computer needs to be practical)
- Hand-holding (The system should function in all environments, but maintenance/updates should be my responsibility)
- Dozens of packages that exist to serve a function that could be replaced with another package, but instead force the removal of half the system when you uninstall them.
- Don't want to have to add everything from scratch(I love Arch, I love the Arch documentation, but I really need to get past the basics and into a development environment, video production, and web-browsing in under a week.
