My wife attempted to create a visual schedule with the #7yo. It did not go well. Rather than "first we have dinner, then dessert, then we brush teeth..", the 7yo grabbed the marker and drew.. this.
In the first panel, she turns into a cat. In the second panel, she eats cat food. In the third panel, they go outside to enjoy the sunset or golden hour. In the fourth panel, she uses the toilet. Next panel, mom reads to her. She falls asleep on the couch. Mom carries her upstairs to her bunk bed.
It's still so infuriating to me that NYC's DOE is so fucking bad for disabled kids that there's an entire industry based around suing the DOE for the federally mandated "fair & appropriate education". This place is run like absolute shit.
At the bday party, we were hearing horror stories from the #7yo's former classmates. 30 first graders, 1 teacher, and absolute chaos. It's bad enough for neurotypical kids, but an outright disaster for neurodiverse ones.
