The first storyline in #ACanticleForLeibowitz is, iirc, the original novella and while not especially hopeful per se, does have some good concepts worth contemplating. I've shared quotations with friends a few times, esp re culture and continuity/replacement.

The original novella for #ThePostman is also good, not deep but uplifting. The novel-version feels clunky and imo moves too far from the emotional tone of the novella.

I recently finished #EarthAbides and have ordered #TheDeathOfGrass and have #ACanticleForLeibowitz on my TBR, though I don't own a copy yet. #TheLongTomorrow by #LeighBrackett sounds interesting too, but what else might interest me?

I really hate how modern publishers have eschewed hiring artists to do covers for classic works of sci fi/fantasy and now seem to employ either web designers or just grab a Wordpress template.
