Also, as DnD uses feet and other arcane units, it can be rather entertaining to see an entire party struggle with visualising distances.
Me: That is about 1000 feet away.
Party member: How far is that?
Me: I honestly don't know.
I mean, I do think that using those deprecated units fits very well with the flavour of a fantasy game, even if does cause confusion in this metric-centric party.
Had a great D&D session, very story focused with no combat and a lot of cute animal scenes. All to fit the subclass of the groups barbarian in the story.
It was very nice to have a session with low stakes, where the party was generally at ease while travelling.
One spanner in the works was that I came home from a party at 8 this morning, so I was a tad hungover while running this. So I'm now crashing...
So, for my 6th D&D session, I had one player drop out permanently, and recruited another player during my divorce party. So I expected to do a decent amount of prep to make a nice coherent story so that the old player phased out, and the new player joined, right?
Well, then ADHD hit, and I ended up with 4 lines of prep in total. 4 lines and a lot of improvisation, and great chemistry between new and old players made it pretty easy to fill the entire session. I honestly think I like the improv stuff more than the heavily planned stuff.

So, #BaldursGate3 changed my mind on how interested I am in #DungeonsAndDragons, and I'm considering jumping in and DMing a game.
It I push through with it, it'll be interesting, an old #SciFi nerd running a custom #DnD campaign, as I have a fun adventure in mind.
A Merovingian or Carollngian succession war would make for a great setting for a campaign. The insane story of the sisters Fredegund and Brunhilda is not nearly as famous as it should be.
The PCs could be retainers of one of the contestants (perhaps a minor), or be various relatives of the old king who join together to get one of them on the throne and cushy court positions for everyone else.
D&D always made a big deal about psionics being a different force than magic because it's all about "realizing the mind's potential". (Which apparently wizards don't.)
It seemed to have been treated as a given, but there's nothing saying that psions have to be people born with a rare special power. The XPH even spells it out in the introduction.
What if any characters can start gaining psion levels after gazing into the Void and touching the minds of the Great Ones?
Writing about your thought processes for your work in progress can get a bit cringy when you make all these grand announcements for all the world to see that don't ever get anywhere.
But when creating stuff with ADHD, having these thoughts recorded somewhere can be invaluable. Going through old posts with Coming Soon stuff that never got much development is super charging my current creative output.
Of course they are amazing ideas! I already loved them before.
@tinstargames I'm still occasinaly thinking about that video about GMs with ADHD, and it makes me more annoyed with the conclusion every time.
It may have helped the creator of the video, but I would suspect that most of us don't run games to cope with our pain and suffering from a world that has no place for us.
Maybe there seems a noticably large amount of GMs with ADHD because our brains make us particulary talented for this activity?
I am now reverse engineering the base beholder, mind flayer, and kuo-toa from stat blocks from a high level 3.0 adventure.

ADHD&D of the Day:
Making a D&D 3.0 retroclone.
The original rtf files of the 3.0 SRD still exist, so it would be possible to assemble an OSE style copy of the PHB and MM.
But to be fair, some of the things they changed with 3.5e really were a mess in the first place. But others might have been moves in the wrong direction.
@shadomain @TheADHDM ADHD is not a defect or disorder. It's one group of outliers on a normal spectrum of how brains process information.
It poorly aligns with the rigid structures of how modern society organizes administration and scheduling, but is beneficial for other aspects in life. Very useful in making someone a great sentry, scout, or inventor.
Really wouldn't surprise me if it also helps with gamemastering.
