鲁宾的星系

在这幅哈勃太空望远镜影像里,明亮带芒的天体,是位于英仙座方向、近在我们银河系内的前景恒星。
影像所聚焦的后方天体则是UGC 2885,一个距离我们约2亿3千2百万光年远的庞大螺旋星系。
跨幅约800,000光年的这个星系,除了远大于直径约100,000光年的银河系之外,更拥有1兆颗左右的成员星,约莫是银河星数的10倍之多。
目前针对这个星系的研究,部分探索的重点在于了解为何星系可以长得如此庞大。
此外,当年天文学家薇拉.鲁宾(Vera Rubin)进行螺旋星系的旋转运动之先驱研究时,UGC 2885是她量测过的星系之一。
她的工作,为宇宙含有大量暗物质提供了首个可让人信服的证据。
最近,美国为纪念鲁宾特地发行了一枚新的硬币,而刚上线的鲁宾天文台,也预定在6月23日发布它的首张宇宙探索影像。

📸 Solar Eclipse
On April 20, 2023, a rare hybrid solar eclipse was seen from the Indian Ocean. Fred Espenak (1953–2025), the legendary "Mr. Eclipse," captured this stunning composite of 11 exposures showing the solar corona in rich detail. His legacy lives on in every eclipse image we admire.

日食

于2023年4月20日,沿著基本上避开陆地的狭窄路径,新月的影子飞掠过地球的南半球,带来了结合日环食与日全食的混合日食。
混合日食相当罕见,至于是见到日全食或是有火之环之称的日环食,端视观察者所在的位置而定。
譬如这例众所引颈期盼的混合日食,在邻近西澳大利亚海岸的印度洋上,搭乘锭泊于全食路径中心线附近船只的追日食者,就目睹了日全食。
这张由著名的追日食者艾斯潘纳克(Fred Espenak)摄于船上的日食影像,捕捉到活跃太阳的壮丽外层大气(日冕)向太空泛流的景象。
这幅主题影像,组合自摄于62秒日全食期间、曝光时间介于1/2000秒到1/2秒之间的11张照片,以记录全食阶段肉眼难以见到的日冕细微结构。
