The other day I got to hike the Boardwalk Trail at the #Waikamoi Preserve on #Maui, owned by #TheNatureConservancy. Untrammeled native Hawaiian forest is a rarity, so I savor these opportunities to go birdwatching in the last remaining haunts of the endangered #Kiwikiu and #Akohekohe (tho I struck out on both this time).

Most visitors to #Hawaii are unaware of the fact that they've probably never seen a native Hawaiian forest bird.
