I know someone who has an even more intense interest in historical Chinese board games than I do. He researches them and publishes recreations which range from mostly-guesswork to intensely accurate. This is one such game, a variant of Xiangqi that was quite popular many years ago (more popular than even the version that dominates today!) but which fell into disfavour over the centuries.
