yesterday on the hellsite i had a laugh at this shot from sailor moon and remarked on the technique used to make the hit look so hard. so i thought hey why not do an #AnimationAnalysis over on the toot site? it'll be quick

as you likely know, tv animation is about economy of frames. every frame is costly so you gotta make them count. that makes this shot quite impressive since the animator only needed like 8 frames to make the gag work!

alright so i actually went to find a ghibli run to look at. totoro has a lot of breakneck running so i started there tonight #AnimationAnalysis

focusing on satsuki (the older sister) you can see that ghibli runs do. not. fuck. around. this is especially true for chase scenes but they also break this out for lively characters, especially little kids
