The only problem for Desiree is that she's American with an Iranian surname and Iranian looks, unlike Gerwig, who has a German surname and a more appropriate wrap.
The openness of the liberal mind has a specific form and a time of its own.

Whilst we're at it, if you would like to watch another well-written, well-directed, uncompromising, serious, and introspective film by a director who happens to be a woman and very gay, I think Desiree Akhavan's "Appropriate Behavior" is at least just as deserving of accolades as Greta Gerwig's. (I think both Frances Ha and Appropriate Behavior were released roughly around the same year, in 2014)
