We all love wandering the floor at a con, but we all know how the con experience can be enhanced by bringing along some hilarious novelty gifts. Well, Seattle has the perfect thing for that enhancement: visiting Archie McPhee. This quirky and delightful novelty store located at 1300 N. 45th Street in the Wallingford neighborhood is a must-visit experience for anyone who enjoys a good laugh and loves unique and offbeat items.

Founded in 1983 by Mark Pahlow, Archie McPhee has become a local institution and a beloved destination for both tourists and locals alike. Named after Pahlow’s wife’s great-uncle, the store started as a mail-order business before evolving into the whimsical wonderland it is today.

When you step inside Archie McPhee, you’ll be greeted by an array of quirky and amusing products. From the iconic rubber chickens to glow-in-the-dark aliens, bacon-scented air fresheners, and even a Librarian Action Figure, there’s something for everyone. The store is a treasure trove of gag gifts, party supplies, and oddities that you won’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re looking for a unique souvenir or just want to browse and have a good laugh, Archie McPhee delivers an unforgettable shopping experience.

One of the highlights of visiting Archie McPhee is the Rubber Chicken Museum. Yes, you read that right! This one-of-a-kind museum, which is located inside the store, celebrates the history and cultural significance of the rubber chicken. The Museum is a fun and quirky addition to the store that you won’t want to miss.

A visit to Archie McPhee is more than just a shopping trip; it’s an adventure into the whimsical and bizarre. Whether you’re hunting for the perfect gag gift, exploring the Rubber Chicken Museum, or just soaking in the quirky atmosphere, you’re sure to leave Archie McPhee with a smile on your face. And hey, make sure to bring a rubber chicken back for the con floor. I’m sure people will be giggling about the chicken all day, a timeless and classic gag from the past that is still very much alive today and will surely persist long into the future.

On my short visit to #Seattle this week I managed to pass by #ArchieMcphee a novelty store that I haven't been to in about 5 years. Truly a paradise for someone raised on Mad magazine and that kind of aesthetic. If I ever won the lottery I would open a store like this just to cheer up people like me. #novelties #ToyStore

Archie McPhee has a crow in a peanut car. Inspired by the crow I feed every morning, Featherpants.

You can see my influence on Archie McPhee products! My favorite part of this crow is that the body is matte and the beak is glossy. It really makes it stand out.

A wind-up crow on a picnic table standing next to a peanut. It's a beautiful looking crow. You can tell it's smaller than an actual crow because it's next to a peanut.

Hundreds of tiny toys on a white background. It's hard to distinguish many individual figures, but you can see a frog, a rubber chicken, a tiny hand and a snail pretty clearly.

I was looking at this product today and thinking about how proud I am of it. I love crows and toys and I really think our package captured my tender feelings for both. The box is a matchbox style and all four crows are nestled in a nest.

A home inside a home with precious plastic crows. The crows were originally all matte black, but we added shine to their beaks, eyes, and talons.

Everyone I've given them to has kept the box to store them in.

Dropped my kiddo off with friends tonight for them to go see a concert. Briefly met said friends who I knew from hearing them over the gaming Discord as they played together. Introduced myself as kiddo's dad. Friend looks at me in absolute awe. "You're the inflatable toupée dad?!" Yes, yes I am. I have never been more proud. #ArchieMcPhee #TheTyraBanksOfInflatalbeHairProducts #Seattle

Yes, that's me, modeling the Inflatable Toupée (sadly now discontinued) from Archie McPhee. The main pic is me in my blue dress shirt and red tie, smiling and looking into the camera with the inflatable toupée perched atop my otherwise mostly hairless head. The white elastic straps are visible running under my chin to hold on the plastic inflated toupée. The valve sticks straight up about an inch out of the top right in the middle of it. Inset is a picture of the box packaging. My shirt is manipulated to a tan color to match the packaging and the image is reversed. The top of the box says "Inflatable Toupée" while underneath the image it says "One size fits all."

@craignewmark @gq If it makes you feel any better, Cosmopolitan magazine put me in their "Fail!" column simply because they thought my beautiful #ArchieMcPhee inflatable toupée didn't live up to their inflated fashionista expectations.

Photo of a page from Cosmpolitan Magazine cutting off a larger piece but showing what they label a fashion FAIL! showing me modeling the Archie McPhee Inflatable Toupee. The caption underneath the image of me reads: X FAIL The Inflatable Toupée: because there's nothing that says "I love you" quite like giving Dad a hairline complex.
