A group of people are gathered outdoors at a beachside picnic. The scene depicts four individuals, two men and two women, sitting on the sandy ground surrounded by trees with dense foliage in what appears to be a lush forested area. They are casually dressed for leisure time; one man is wearing patterned swim shorts while another has no shirt on but sports black swimming trunks. There's a variety of food items being enjoyed – some holding plates, cups and bowls that suggest they're partaking in a meal together.

Notably, the group displays relaxed postures typical of social gatherings during picnic moments: one man is caught mid-bite with his hand near his mouth while another gazes off into space. The women are similarly involved; their expressions range from engaged to contemplative as they interact or look around them.

Various objects contribute to this setting – a pink towel hangs on the tree, adding vibrant color contrast against the verdant backdrop. There's also evidence of picnic paraphernalia: a wicker basket containing items presumably related to food preparation and consumption sits beside one woman; cups are strewn about in close proximity suggesting casual dining.

The image carries an atmosphere that reflects both tranquility and conviviality, characteristic of Frissell’s portrayal within her "Way of Life" series which aimed at capturing candid life experiences. The photograph encapsulates a moment frozen i [...]

I’m presently working on developing a page dedicated to the career of Pepper Martin with the Cardinals and the Gashouse Gang. In the meantime, here is a link I do have on the Gashouse Gang.

I get it sounds weird but with the recent passing of Beach Boy Brian Wilson, for whatever reason I think of the eccentric baseball great Rube Waddell, I think they kind of look alike and may have both been on the Autism spectrum, which helps me kind of think of how Rube may have come across in his time.

Rube Waddell was an imposing figure on the mound, standing at 6’1” and weighing around 210 pounds, which made him a towering presence by the standards of his time. As a left-handed pitcher, his size combined with a deceptive, explosive delivery gave him a distinct advantage. His fastball was known for its speed and movement, and his so his legacy between the lines was for striking out batters

Rube Waddell died of tuberculosis at age 37 in 1914. His health had steadily declined, worsened by years of alcoholism. His death marked a sad end to the life of a pitcher whose talent was as remarkable as his personal struggles.

#FBF - Spinners memories. Jose Iglesias at bat and on base in 2012; the Dog Man (IYKYK) in 2006. See the smokestack in photo no. 2? That's right next to where I live now. Close enough that a Vlad Guerrerro Sr outfield throw could hit LeLacheur from my building. But, alas, no more Spinners. 😢
