Is there any significance in the mixed red and black text for the opening credits of
#BedknobsAndBroomsticks? I've wandered about this for 50-odd years! #filmastodon

One screen of the opening credits for Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

Roughly half of the text is red, and the rest is black.

My head canon:
The Rivers of London books and Bedknobs and Broomsticks take place in the same shared world.

@MatthewTitus88 it’s the trippy cousin of “Mary Poppins” and “Pete’s Dragon”

“Bedknobs and Broomsticks” was developed at the same time as “Mary Poppins” (1964) and the number “The Beautiful Briny Sea” was originally intended to be in “Mary Poppins” but was dropped and later repurposed for “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”

This movie was developed at the same time as Mary Poppins (1964). Walt Disney started with this movie, decided it was too complicated technically, and switched over to Mary Poppins (1964). They switched back and forth between movies a few times. They intended to drop this movie permanently at one point, but the Sherman brothers, who did the music for both projects, insisted that Disney finish it after they were done with Mary Poppins (1964).The song "The Beautiful Briny Sea" was originally written for a sequence in Mary Poppins (1964) that was ultimately dropped.

The animation in “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” was headed up by two of Disney’s “Nine Old Men”: Ward Kimball (directed) and Milt Kahl (designer)

When I was a kid I loved watching this, “The Little Mermaid” and “The Incredible Mr. Limpet”.. now I’m wondering if it was a “cartoon fish” thing 🤔

Obviously, the songs in “Mary Poppins” are iconic but I love the character in the ones in “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”

@MatthewTitus88 Basically it comes down to the herbs they’d use (most likely hyoscine AKA scopolamine) being anointed via muscosal membranes AKA umm witch crotch (it was often said that witches would ride their brooms in states of un dress) and go for ~wild rides~ (AKA trippin’ balls)

I love how she gets straight into the witchcraft once she acquires the children

@MatthewTitus88 I’m pretty sure this and “The Little Mermaid” are tied for films I watch the most often on D+ lol

Why doesn't #DisneyPlus have the restored version of #BedknobsandBroomsticks? They only list the 117-minute theatrical version. Strange omission.
