Negro Wins Officer Bars In Engineering Alexander Concludes Fort Belvoir Course The only Kentuckian in the graduating class at The Engineer Officer Candidate School, Fort Belvoir, Va., was Second Lt. Jesse N. Alexander, Jr., 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse N. Alexander, 3302 Hale. Alexander was one of the first two Negroes graduated from the school since it was organized after the fighting started in Korea. He was one of 26 who completed the course in a starting class of 55. He was graduated from the University of Louisville in 1950 and selected for the engineering course because of his aptitude in mathematics. He is under orders to report to Fort Lewis, Wash., May 27.
